Why Medium Writers Need to Hear What Medium Has to Say

If you don’t already know the PS publication I Love you will be closing its doors, the last stories in the publication will be posted on June 30. And as I read the farewell note, a thought came to me about this.

What if we stopped listening to what Medium has to tell us?

This is not the first time I have seen respected writers and respected publications say goodbye to Medium. Several were the bad news we received without knowing if there will be a return or not.

Because of the restructuring of the Medium editorial team and some changes about how things should be viewed in the not too distant future, Medium has begun a series of contract terminations with creators, editors, and partners. The news has been widely reported on news channels across the United States when in a leadership meeting CEO Ev William announced the end of several other things and the restructuring of the entire editorial team. Surely the news was like a bucket of water for many within the Medium company, as even we writers felt the effects of this small impasse month before the announcement.

In the last few days I was thinking the following: Medium is constantly updating, and these changes are affecting many writers and publications, some are giving up and some are coming to terms with the difficult moment. My thought is: what if Medium is moving towards a better path than it has been before and now? Could the writers who have abandoned Medium and the publications that have closed their doors, reactivate their accounts again?

Think with me

My thoughts are based on the fact that not all times are good, and we should know how to deal with these difficult times at any time and wait for the giant day to come when we can change our course and do even more than we have done before. Ends of contracts are celebrated every day all over the world, and not even with that some feel out of the context of decisions or restructuring, although sometimes it is necessary to make such an effect.

“We must respect each individual’s idea and reasoning. But what if we could wait just a little longer? What if we gave Medium a second chance?”

Perhaps it is our turn to stop and hear a little about Medium, and dance to her music and waits for what the next song will be, whether it will be fun and enjoyable to catch a lady sitting in the chair and shine in that hall with a jubilant dance.

“It is not enough to listen but to know how to listen.”

Sometimes the change is at the door and change can come through the roof.

When everyone was discouraged and struggling just to keep their focus on their content, Medium surprised them with a bonus of half a million dollars distributed to a thousand writers. I don’t know why Medium offered this gift to the creators, some may not be interested to know what’s going on behind all this. But in my opinion, Medium is expressly saying: don’t be hasty, we are still in control and what comes next will change the way we see Medium today. We are powerful, and we are up to the task of competing with any competitor that is entering your mind with bonuses that attract creators to drive you crazy.

Or maybe Medium is telling us: hey, here is still the best place to develop your writing and make exciting stories because we democratize the platform and give creators a voice.

Maybe we need to change the angle of perspective and look the other way to understand the constant changes and stay connected to everything that can be seen as glory.

With everything, we are just at the beginning of something big that can happen shortly. Medium has been coveted since its early days: Since August 2017 it has become even more coveted because of the partner program, and it’s only 8 years into the platform’s existence and 4 years of content monetization. Many things are still to come, 4 years is a small thing compared to what can come.

Today we have “PS I Love You” closing its doors, months ago we saw Ar Digital closing its doors, the publication “Live Your Life On Purpose”, has not published a single story since February. The last story was published on February 10 and so far we have had no responses. Medium’s largest publication the Startup has undergone a restructuring which has been called Startitup. It’s a series of events unfolding within Medium, but they can all be resolved if we look differently at the way we act.

I in particular am not going to stop writing on Medium. I have those occupations that sometimes make me not have time to sit down and write, but I will always be here because I love this platform so much.
