Even before launching, writers and book lovers alike are all asking the same question. What is Kindle Vella? Well, it's much less complicated than some may think. Kindle Vella is a new extension of Amazon's KDP program. While the Kindle Direct Publishing program allows for writers and creative people to publish books of all kinds, Kindle Vella is focused on series content.

This new platform will allow Kindle subscribers to read the first three parts of a series. If they enjoy the series and want to continue reading the next parts, they pay to "unlock" those parts. These purchased are made using tokens that are bought in bundles. The author of that series, then gets a 50% royalty each time their series is unlocked. Unlocking episodes will cost the reader 1 token for every 100 words in the series being unlocked. Prices for token bundles are not fully certain or written in stone. A noteworthy aspect will be that readers will be able to "fave" and "thumbs up" a series as well, which will increase the popularity.

Typically, each section acts like a chapter, and would range between 600 words and around 1200 words. This breaks up the story nicely for the reader and allows for more chapters in the series. More chapters could mean more money for the author who created it.

What is Kindle Vella Going to Do For Fiction Writers?

For those who are driven to write fiction, Kindle Vella is outstanding news! Many fiction writers may not want to write an entire book. At the same time, writing short stories is not very profitable. In fact, usually a fiction writer would have to write a collection of short stories and turn them into a book. Not anymore! Now, you can publish those short stories as a series on this new platform and start earning royalties much quicker. Just be sure to connect each section or chapter of the series in some way.

Creatively, this also means that a fiction writer can work offline on several different storylines. Build out your conceptual ideas into several different series-based stories. That way, as you finish three or four sections of a concept... simply publish it onto Kindle Vella as a new series. Let's face it; we fiction writers tend to be a little scatter-minded at times. Too many creative stories running through our heads at one time. Well, now that's not a problem anymore.

What About Non-Fiction Writers?

Perhaps you are not a fiction writer. Does this mean that you can't find a profitable home on this new platform? Of course not! You can create a series based on actual events or educate your readers with an on-going lesson that is sequential.

If you are more in the mood to have fun with your non-fiction writing, then you can always create a fiction story that is based on non-fiction content. Change the names of people and locations while telling a true story from your own life. Suddenly, your series becomes a fiction but with the power of true events. Readers often love to read fiction works that are based on a true story. Think about it... how many popular movies have you seen that are based on a true story? Exactly. Many of those were books first.

What Are the Requirements For Writers?

Like any other platform, Kindle Vella will have it's requirements and guidelines. Some of the requirements that we already know are:

• US Based Author

• Must be in English

• 600 to 5000 Words

• Only Basic Formatting Supported (bold, italics, and underlines)

• Content Must Not Be Freely Available Elsewhere

• Must Be Fully Separate From All Long-Form Content (ie: Books, etc)

It is unclear if authors will need to have an Amazon Prime account, though it is logical that this will follow the same rules as a regular KDP account. After all, this is really an extension of the KDP platform, rather than an entirely removed venture. Of course, having an Amazon Prime account is a rather good idea anyway. You are sure to get better noticed if you have this, though that is purely speculation.

As you can see, though, the requirements aren't that bad at all. If you live in the United States and have ever wanted to write and earn passive income; now is your chance. It is my belief that the royalties won't be great per series, however, any amount of money will add up over time. Small payments become large checks after a while.

The better you write and the more you write... the more you'll earn. If you are a professional writer then this is a great opportunity for you. As I said before, this is especially true for fiction writers who didn't have an outlet for their work before. If you are not a professional writer, then you can still make a great go of this. Practice, training and the right tools will make all the difference. After that it is up to you keep learning and to keep writing. Of course, I have a hook up for you that will help with that.

If you need training, spell checkers, tons of other tools, job placement assistance for writers, and more... check out this All-in-One Resource for writers and bloggers! I found it a little while back and so far I'm blown away! I will likely be doing a review on my YouTube channel also so be sure to look for that. This would put you head and shoulders above the other Kindle Vella authors; even a lot of the professional ones.

Now, go and write your series and publish it on Kindle Vella. Don't let this opportunity pass you by. This may be the next big thing for writers... it is Amazon, after all.
