Every profession is challenging and dynamic. So is the design industry, to be specific development and coding side of the design operations. The production department of a design agency is always in haste. Have a look at the life of a web developer. You will understand how dynamically precipitation they face in terms of projects and undue tasks. Ad hoc requests are also part of their lives aside from their daily job responsibilities.

A day in the life of a web developer is not easy. That is why we have come up with the idea to describe one of our best programmer's typical days at work. Although we have a super active and expert team, we have selected our busiest developer to present his on-the-job day to explain the difficulties and challenges.

It is also helpful for those who want to become a developer and plan to try their luck in the field. Do read this routine of web developer day in the life so that you do not have any doubts when making your final decision.

Robert Wells works as a developer at Elite Design Hub – an Austin-based digital design agency concentrating on web design and development.

Robert's academic background:

1. Computer Science

2. Animation

3. Language and Coding

Robert was interested in web development from a very young age his sight of art was very unique from the beginning through good teacher’s counseling and inner drive he chose to become a developer. He used to try to build websites using basic HTML and CSS.

What does a Web Developer do all Day?

Generally a day in the life of a programmer consists mainly of the job responsibilities mentioned in his job offer. But practically there is a lot a developer goes through in a day. For example urgent tasks, ad hoc requests, additional revision, and unexpected requirements of clients.

To closely examine a day in the life of a web developer, let us start from his daily routine including his favorite past times, what he prefers in food and much more let’s dive in.

Robert’s Daily Routine:

7:00 AM – Generally, I wake up around 6:30 AM, get ready, and I'm out the door to get into work at 9 AM.

9:00 AM – We like a good breakfast at Elite Design Hub. This is regularly a time to ease into the day and talk to coworkers about the projects we've in hand.

9:30 AM – Working in an agency-like Elite Design Hub means that I get to work on various projects. Sometimes, I have a monstrous project to work on that takes a few months overall. Some days, I have smaller sections and pieces for already running websites to add new functionality.

10:00 AM – This time is dedicated to emails and meetings to get updates on the projects. Then I jump into the briefs I've got and start working on them. The thing I like most, coding!

10:30 AM – I take out about 15 minutes to read blogs or articles. To know what is latest in the industry. Change is only constant in our industry, so if we stop learning, we can not survive. There are several new ways to do traditional projects and recent advancements in technology.

No two projects are the same, so the real challenge is adapting and learning from every task you can take into the next one.

10:45 AM – I pick the most challenging task of the day and start it on priority. The first half of the day is always energetic, and tricky projects give me the intrinsic motivation to complete them on time. I relish working on more significant projects. It is good to see the project develops from the initial concept through UX Planning and development.

11:00 AM – I'm usually coding until the end of the day. Confronting with Project Managers and Designers while doing this.

12:30 PM (Lunch) – In the agency, people come from a mixture of different backgrounds, bringing that wisdom with them. At the table, we share jokes, knowledge, and our past experiences.

4:00 PM – I am a Front End developer, so the main tools I use daily are:

● Atom (code editor)

● Git

● CodeKit

● SASS

● Adobe Photoshop

● Adobe Illustrator.

I am from a 3D modeling/animation background that helps a lot in my current job regarding UI animations. Looking at the composition and layout of a website and the code structure is easy now.

5:00 PM – At this point, I review the work I've done. Make plans for the coming days. This includes the goals I set to achieve for my existing project.

I feel that I need the training to achieve long-term plans, including which areas I want to improve. I share it with the production team and managers. I get training on approval.

6:00 PM - It's time to say goodbye to my desk and get into the other things of my interest.

7:00 PM – Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, gaming, and movies.

Wrap Up

I go to the gym every day, do weight training, which is too much, but I like to be fit and healthy. So, I find it incredible. I usually take part in different outing events such as hiking, cycle races, etc. I am enthusiastic about knowledge and improvement, and I'm always striving to discover other things I find fascinating.

Robert says about how his adventure in web development started.

"I enjoy it because every day I deal with a new brand project that is unique in its many ways."

Learning coding can take you down several different paths. The most important part is staying focused, prioritizing tasks, and learning something new every day so that your mind does not get saturated. A developer entails so much through work that everything cannot be mentioned in a short article. Wrapping up, hoping that this article is helpful in some ways and you get to know how is life as a web developer. Keep coming in for more exciting pieces of writing. Stay tuned.
