When the order to stay at home came from the government during the COVID-19 pandemic, it left many of our favourite destinations empty. Now that lockdowns are coming to an end, Kuldip Rait, Director of White 7 Bedford, specialists in chauffeured tours shares his amazing spots that the UK has to offer, possibly with a new appreciation for everything we have on our doorsteps.

So, where should you be heading off to?

1. London

As the capital city, London is top of most people’s favourite places to visit. By combining the historic Buckingham Palace and Houses of Parliament with the modern Shard there is something for everyone. With a range of cultural options such as the range of art galleries, West End theatres and famous shopping centres, London presents incredible choice and is great as a day out or a longer break.

2. Edinburgh

Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and offers beautiful architecture in the form of the Royal Palace and Edinburgh Castle. There are terrific sights, such as the Scottish National War Memorial and the Stone of Destiny before whiling away a few hours in the Old Town’s Royal Mile and Princes Street. Once a year the city plays host to its incredible festivals of culture and comedy which are famous across the world.

3. Bath

For a real blast from the past, Bath has a lot to offer. It is famous for its Roman Baths that have been in place for more than 2000 years. The hot springs that the city boasts are packed with minerals that many believe have curative properties. There are some superb spas to visit in the local area, and the Georgian Royal Crescent shows how different periods of history have left their mark.

4. Stonehenge

As global landmarks go, Stonehenge is one of the most famous. This World Heritage Site has been visited by people for the last 4,500 years, although there is still very little that is actually known about it. Believed to be a place of worship originally, it is now a source of wonder for many, and attracts huge crowds for the Summer Solstice.

5. Windsor

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle through Windsor Castle into the spotlight, but it has actually stood since 1078 and is still the home of the Queen. Visitors can enjoy exploring the State Apartments and St George’s Chapel to truly feel as though they are walking through history. Nearby, Legoland Windsor offers fun for all the family, and Royal Ascot is just a short drive away.

6. Cornwall and Devon

We all like to be beside the seaside, and Cornwall and Devon offer some of the best beaches in the country. Coupled with fabulous weather and beautiful views, it is very easy to spend lots of time in these idyllic spots.

7. Giant’s Causeway

The Giant’s Causeway is located near Belfast in Northern Ireland and is made of 4000 columns of basalt that seem to reach up out of the sea, forming a staircase fit only for giants.

8. Loch Ness

If you fancy a bit of monster spotting, then Loch Ness is still one of the most popular attractions in Scotland. This stunning body of water offers some of the most attractive views that you will find anywhere in the country. It is overlooked by the ruins of Urquhart Castle but most visitors who descend on the area do so in the hope of a glimpse of the infamous Loch Ness Monster.

9. The Cotswolds and Lake District

The Cotswolds provides the very best of English scenery and rural life, with quaint villages dotted throughout idyllic pasturelands. It is one of the most photographed places in the UK and the LAAKE District National Park is a hotspot for walkers and those looking for relaxation.

10. York

The medieval city of York boasts the magnificent York Minster and has roots which go back as far as the 3rd century. A walk around the ancient City Walls show you some of the best sights the city has to offer, including the beautiful spot of The Shambles.
