The next big thing in 2023 is decentralized social networking. We're finally beginning to see users waking up en masse to the risks of centralized social networking companies, not least catalyzed by the recent threatened ban of TikTok and Twitter's capricious suspensions and prohibiting linking out to other platforms. Users, creators, and businesses have realized that it's dangerous to invest in building an audience on these platforms when there's a looming risk that the rug gets pulled out from under them. We're at a moment where there is a collective sense of "We’ve lived with the existing paradigm of closed social platforms for 15 years. What comes next?" I think we'll see a decentralized social network start to gain steam in the next year that allows users to own their social graph and content and port it across various applications. We'll also see more creators experimenting with web3 tools that allow them to reach their audience in a platform-less way, i.e. through tokens acting as a new kind of social graph.

We Wholeheartedly Agree

Jin is correct in her assessment. Creators have been getting the short end of the stick for the last decade and now something has to change. Users are demanding to own their entire social graph, all their content, port it seamlessly across various applications and get paid for it. There has to be a better more transparent way to interact on social and get paid. There is, it's called decentralized social. DeSo has several easy ways of entering into their ecosystem, which does all the above. Let's cover just a few of them below.

Microblogging

Microblogging is a form of online communication that gives users the freedom to share content quickly and easily. With decentralized social media platforms, this type of communication could be taken to the next level. For example, users would no longer need to worry about their data being used without their consent; blockchain technology would ensure that all user data remains secure and private. In addition, users would have complete autonomy over who they follow and which content they see in their feed—no more algorithms deciding what content should be shown. Online Communities

Decentralized social media also has potential applications for online communities as well. Blockchain technology makes it easier for people to form and join communities based on shared interests or beliefs. This type of platform would give users true ownership of their own data, so they wouldn’t have to worry about their information being sold or shared with advertisers. NFTz

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are another potential application for decentralized social media platforms. NFTs are essentially digital assets that are stored on a blockchain ledger; these assets can range from artwork to music to video clips and more. With decentralized social media platforms, artists and creators can easily share their work with an audience without having to worry about third-party corporations taking a cut of their profits or claiming ownership over the work itself. This opens up new avenues for creativity and collaboration that were previously not possible due to the limitations of existing centralized networks. CeSo vs. DeSo

Another problem with web2 Centralized Social media (CeSo) is that it collects and sells the data we voluntarily input on social media platforms which ultimately increases their revenue. As a result, data and privacy issues remain a constant.

Web3 Decentralized Social media (DeSo) puts the power back in the hands of the creators. DeSo has forced the conversation around censorship, privacy, data protection, creator ownership, monetization, algorithmic choice and transparency.

That's another reason why I believe that social media users will flock to decentralized social in 2023. There are quite a few to choose from, but I believe DeSo will be the clear winner because it puts the creator first.

Creators deserve more than a like.

Creators deserve to get paid for their content.

Creators deserve to own their social graph.

Creators deserve transparency.

Creators deserve a caring community.

Creators get all of the above and more with DeSo.
