The Eight Types Of Leadership Styles
By: Mark Cruver
There are various leadership styles, such as Bureaucratic, Autocratic, and Democratic. Before answering a question about what leadership is, think carefully about what kind of leader you would like to be. This will allow you to identify which type of leader you are and which leadership styles you would like to adopt. Understanding the various types of leadership and their characteristics can help organizations create effective and efficient leaders. Let’s discuss the various leadership styles you can choose from.
1.Democratic
The democratic leadership style allows leaders to make decisions based on the feedback and opinions of their team members. This type of leadership is very effective since it enables employees to participate in the decision-making process.
2.Autocratic
The autocratic style of leadership is very different from democratic leadership in that it doesn’t consider the opinions of the employees. Instead, leaders expect their subordinates to follow their lead and follow their decisions.
3.Laissez-faire
The laissez-faire style is characterized by leaders’ willingness to let their subordinates do whatever they want. This type of leadership can empower its members but also limit their development.
4.Strategic
Leaders commonly use the strategic leadership style to bridge the gap between their senior team and the employees. It ensures that both the working conditions and the executive interests of the company are maintained when a decision is made.
5.Transformational
The goal of the transformational style of leadership is to transform the company’s functions and capabilities. It can also encourage employees to push their limits. Most organizations that are growth-oriented adopt this type of leadership.
6.Transactional
Today, most organizations adopt the action and reward concept to develop their employees. For instance, a company can incentivize its employees if they reach a particular target.
7.Coach-Style
The growth-oriented leadership style focuses on developing individual talents and strengths. Although it’s similar to democratic and strategic leadership, this type of leadership focuses more on the individual.
8.Bureaucratic
The authoritarian style of leadership doesn’t consider the opinions of the employees. Instead, it encourages leaders to follow their own decisions and ignore the opinions of their subordinates.
