On the way

Let the journey happen and you have the sun that lights up the night.

Every time you travel, you may go to a place several times with different people and for different reasons, but there will always be some key words in the memories you have that make your journey very different from others. I never like to mention a travel destination and always think "go there in a few years", because it always will be indefinite. After the outbreak of the epidemic, the lack of time for overseas travel made me realize that, fortunately, I moved with my heart before. Recently, I learned about the current situation in Chiang Mai from a local traveler I met before. The current situation is indeed worrying. Eighty percent of the stores in the ancient city have collapsed. The original 32,000 baht rented storefront is now 10,000 but still have no one rents. Many people in the tourism industry have lost their jobs to deliver food. This year, there are no paid sky lantern festivals and parades, and the markets are bleak and unpopular. Teresa Teng's song "When Will You Come Again" was sung in the past and today, it is really very different.

All the happenings in a journey. Whether it was the car that broke down on the side of the road that made you unable to start, or the surprise of the celebration on the road. Whether it was the anxiety of being lost in the wilderness, or the secret pride when discovering the secret realm. When everything come back to your senses, you will be thankful for the scenery along the way.

The most beautiful thing in the world is just the encounter.

In my memories, Chiang Mai is not just the Chiang Mai of Teresa Teng. It is not just the Chiang Mai of Leslie Cheung. It is not just the sights and coffee shops everywhere.

But also the humble but leisurely hospital that I found by chance. It is the coffee from the stalls that give money at random in the weekend market. It is the sudden downpour when visiting the night market. It is the fascinating handmade fabrics in the art village. It is the conversation with the meditation foreigner, and it is the freshness of going to the local people’s home to learn how to cook.

It is the story of the Chiang Mai guy who almost became the son-in-law of Shanghai. It is the sudden unpleasantness at the Sky Lantern Festival. It is the afternoon in the enchanted forest where the elephants were bathed on a raft, and it is the unforgettable nights accompanied by thousands of Kongming lanterns...

All these experiences are like the slowly rising sky lanterns. Although the flames are small, thousands of them come together to give you the sun that can illuminate the night. Although it is written in the past, the best hope in the world is that tomorrow will definitely come, and this immortal Kongming lantern will eventually carry all the possibilities.

I'm just giving some small thoughts before getting to the point. Next, I will tell you in detail what I saw and felt during my trip in Chiang Mai. They contain five sections: Chiang Mai's Cultural Beliefs, Folklore Features, Featured Festival Loy Krathong, Featured Elephant Resort, and Chiang Rai. At the same time, I will provide you with some advice and tips for traveling in Chiang Mai.
