I have never been wine tasting anywhere. I live in California, where one can head up to Napa, Ventura, Paso Robles or Temecula and that is just to name a few. I confess I am not an avid wine drinker. There I have said it and it feels great to finally get that off my chest. I was married to a professional, honest to goodness man educated in the field of Culinary Arts and no matter how many times it was brought home or paired with the meal, I can honestly say I only drank it because there was no other form of alcohol in the house. Flash forward several years and I am now on the cusp of a weekend in Temecula wine tasting and I have no clue what to expect. Comedy at its finest to say the least.

Having always been a beer and spirits drinker, I have been to several breweries and distilleries up and down California. I have even been lucky enough to visit several bourbon distilleries along Kentucky's Bourbon Trail. I have developed a taste for ales and pilzners, as well as heffs and certain stouts. Therefore now, facing a weekend at a winery has me feeling a bit out of my element. Not that I am not looking forward to it. I have found myself to be much more adventurous with trying new thing more now in my 40s and ten years ago in my 30s.

An added bonus to the trip is that my partner got us a room at the Pechanga Resort and Casino. We really enjoy a good time at the slots and have phenomenal luck when we go. Other than the good time gaming we really do not branch out too far. I know that the area is known for hot air balloon rides, impressive golf courses, the casinos surrounding the area and of course the wineries. I have been researching and reading about their historic old town district that is about 12 blocks around with a California Certified Farmers Market on Saturdays and a Temecula Olive Oil Company I am quite curious about and would be quite interested in visiting.

As of this time all I know in regards to this trip are the time we are leaving, where we are staying and the main activity we are doing. Our departure will be fairly early in the morning since Pechanga is at least two hours away from the area where we live. We plan to leave no later than 9 am to be there by 11 am with any luck. It is our goal to be able to check in when we arrive and drop all our things off and be ready to trail the group once they arrive as well. My partner and I have agreed to follow the group for however long he wants to before heading to a specific eatery he wants to try called Devilicous Eatery. After immediately checking out their website and spotting a few items I have become very excited about sampling. Once done with that experience, he wants to link up with the group again and continue with the weekend plans.

What will be a first for us is the group of his friends is by far the largest group gathered since he and I have begun going out. a clustered bunch here and there over time and with no regularity but nothing like what the weekend is arranged to be. I have met at least two spouses of friends, and met somewhere near 6 to 10 friends from childhood. I was informed by him that there will be 8 couples at least, that is 16 people. On our first trip out of town to see my family's band, he came across at least that many in cousins that were also there alone. To say I am nervous is putting it mildly. I am looking forward to meeting all these new people and hearing the stories they all share and most of all watching all the interactions between them. I love to people watch and enjoy taking in the dynamic that long time friends share when they are together.

Another area of eager anticipation is our stay at the Pechanga Resort and Casino. First and foremost I am looking forward to checking out the pool which it adorably titled "The Cove" Based on what I saw on the website, there is a large family pool that has a huge water slide, an adult pool with a swim up bar and a secret hidden pool that is also for adults. Whether or not they will all be open is difficult to say at the moment since we are a few days away. I look forward to confirming all these interests of mine. It goes without saying that I am very excited for our gambling shenanigans. It is always a good time and never fails to be profitable. I just know we are hitting a major this weekend and I am so incredibly ready for it.
