Qutub Minar was built by Kutchbuddin Aibak, the first Muslim ruler of Delhi in 1199 AD. Aibak had built the ground and first floor of the Qutab Minar. Later, his son-in-law and successor Iltutmish created three more floors in it.

The name of Qutub Minar is named after Qutubuddin Aibek, but some historians say that it was named after the famous Muslim saint Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki.

Best time to visit Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar is place which is best in all seasons all through the year. The premise is open from sunrise to sunset i.e. from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm all week through. You can go anytime of the year. But, because Delhi is too hot in summers, avoid this season if possible.

Number of steps in Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar is a 73-metre (239.5 feet) tall tapering tower of five storeys, with a 14.3 metres (47 feet) base diameter, reducing to 2.7 metres (9 feet) at the top of the peak. It contains a spiral staircase of 379 steps.

Qitub-ud-Din Aibak

The construction of the Qutub Minar was started by Qitub-ud-Din Aibak, but he only constructed the basement. The construction of the tower was later taken over by his successor Iltutmish who constructed three more stories. The last two storeys were completed Firoz Shah Tuglak.
