Our Family Day Out in Singapore

Sentosa, Sunburn, and a Very Active Toddler

Took the kids to Sentosa today, which in hindsight was always going to be a full-contact sport with a four and a seven-year-old in tow. Here's how our family day in Singapore actually played out, phone casualty included.

9:00am: Breakfast and the Walk Over

Started with breakfast near our hotel before heading to VivoCity to cross over to Sentosa. The kids were buzzing the whole walk across the boardwalk, more excited about the moving walkway than anything we'd actually planned for the day. We were walking around and stumbled upon a humble kopitiam that looks like a mum and pop shop. We ordered everything that is classic to the Asian style breakfast cause we wanted to know what's it like and how they taste. Surprisingly, blew our minds.

10:00am: Universal Studios Singapore

Spent the morning at Universal Studios, queues were manageable since we got there early. The seven-year-old was obsessed with the Jurassic Park section, and honestly, so was I.

We also tried to rush towards the Mummy and Transformers' section cause those usually have longer queues. We finally managed to try those rides out and my oh my, they were as good as people were saying.

12:30pm: Lunch and a Meltdown Averted

Lunch inside the park, standard theme park prices, but the kids were fed and happy, which is really all that mattered by that point. Managed to avoid the classic post-lunch meltdown with the promise of the beach later.

2:30pm: Palawan Beach

Headed to Palawan Beach for the afternoon, the suspension bridge to the little islet was a hit with both kids, and we let them properly tire themselves out running around the sand. This is where things got a bit chaotic. Our younger one grabbed my phone off the towel to take photos of a crab she'd found, and somewhere in the excitement, it ended up face-down in the sand hard enough to crack the screen.

Kids, honestly.

4:00pm: Trying to Find the Ice Cream Place a Friend Mentioned

By late afternoon we were all sandy and overheated, so we headed back toward VivoCity, a friend back home had mentioned an ice cream shop there worth trying, and it felt like the perfect excuse to cool off before dinner. Took a bit of wandering through the mall with two tired kids in tow to actually find it.

On the way, we passed the Mister Mobile VivoCity Branch and I remembered the crack from earlier, figured it was worth asking while we were right there anyway. They had a look at it while the kids sat with their dad nearby, honestly barely added any time to our stop. Turns out there's a promo running for tourists at the moment too, battery repair from $38 with a free waterproof phone bag included, handy given how much sand and water this phone had already survived today. Genuinely one less thing to worry about with two kids in tow, and we were relieved to have it sorted before it became a bigger problem later in the trip.

Found the ice cream place shortly after, and it lived up to the hype, worth the detour on its own.

6:00pm: Wings of Time Back on Sentosa

Headed back across for the evening light and water show on Siloso Beach, a good way to wind the kids down before bed, even if the youngest fell asleep halfway through.

7:30pm: Dinner and an Early Night

Grabbed a simple dinner near the hotel and called it a day early, everyone was exhausted in the good way that only a full day out with kids can manage.

Today had sand, sunscreen, a small phone disaster, and more energy from a four-year-old than I thought humanly possible. Wouldn't change a thing, though I might keep the phone in a bag next time.
