Uncompromising Authenticity

Siu Tang, Creative Director of The Orangeblowfish

The Orangeblowfish's founder Siu Tang pays homage to his roots as a Shanghai street artist while leveraging art and space to amplify brands. The Orangeblowfish began after Siu and his wife Natalie returned from a volunteer trip with Habitat for Humanity. Helping others in need inspired a greater calling.

"I had been in the same company for almost ten years and climbed the ladder to a senior position, but I no longer felt the need to work just for a paycheck."

Shortly after, Siu quit his corporate gig and started pursuing his passion - art.

Creative Minds Scale Quickly

The Orangeblowfish Team Hard at Work

For anyone who has change careers later in life or quit their job to start a business, starting over can be quite nerve wracking. After many years of running on the corporate hamster wheel, opening a boutique art and design studio was risky. Throwing himself into improving his skills as an artist and creator, Siu didn't have time to worry.

"Within six months, I booked my first client – Kommune – a funky restaurant and bar in Taikang Lu, Shanghai. I initially started doing interior wall art design and installations for cafes, bars, restaurants and offices. I also participated in community art projects like DAFF, Surge, The Rotary Club and more."

After two years, Siu completed over two-thousand client and personal projects covering a mix of brand strategy, graphic design, and interior wall art. The Orangeblowfish was born.

In 2014, The Orangeblowfish expanded into a three-person team and moved into our first office in Shanghai. Today they have a team of ten, and work with a global network of artists and partners to serve their growing client base.

Creative Branding Design: More than a Logo

Up Shanghai

Your brand is everything. It is the first interaction, the last, and everything in between. Ideally, your brand is the very core of your company brought to life.

Creative branding design matters. Whether you are starting a coffee brand to honor a Shanghai surfer's West Coast roots, art directing at the hottest night spot in Shanghai, creating social media stickers for Ford, or an interactive scavenger hunt style drinkfest to thank your clients, it's all about the brand experience. Creative branding design requires a kick-ass brand story and creative to match. When most people think about branding, they imagine about a logo. And when you mention marketing, social media is where their mind goes. The Orangeblowfish uses creative problem solving to immerse themselves fully into the customer journey. Only then do they bring a brand to fruition. The boutique design studio utilizes graphic design, wall art, digital marketing, and logo design and other tools at their disposal to amplify brands.

Wall Art: Applying Imagination to an Underutilized Space

Working as Creative Director for the new venue, TOBF collaborated with a dozen different artists from in and around Shanghai – ranging from famous taggers and illustrators to graphic designers and more. This fast-paced cocktail bar/urban-chic nightclub hybrid quickly became a hotspot for different personalities and culture to come together.

Liquid Laundry assigned trusted TOBF with the behemoth task of conceptualizing their new restaurant branding. They designed a contemporary space that evolved to become one of Shanghai’s most iconic brunch spots today.

Digital Marketing: A Thank-You Campaign to Connect Clients with Customers

Stranger Concoctions was based on the pure, simple concept of having fun, and encouraging everyone to begin the new year in high spirits.

The get-to-the-point version? TOBF invited nine famous bartenders in Shanghai to an unprecedented cocktail challenge: create nine mystery cocktails within 24 hours (using the mystery ingredient that each of them had selected when they met TOBF), and sell these mystery cocktails during Chinese New Year at their bars.

To hear the tale of fun and learn about crazy journey that ensued – you’ll just have to witness it below for yourself.

Just Cool Stuff: Creativity Rules

“My whole idea with the rabbit hole is that they transport people, so that they may go somewhere else, wherever that may be.”

Just because Siu and his wife Natalie run a growing business does not mean there isnt time for fun! Siu's obsession with creating rabbit holes has only intensified over the years. The golden rule is if it stops being fun, it's over!

Digital Communications and Marketing: The Other Side of the Coin

Business Survival During Coronavirus

Meet Siu's better half, Natalie Lowe. Natalie is the Managing Partner of The Orangeblowfish. She also heads up the marketing, communications, digital strategy, and business operations. Whew! While Siu handles most of the creative and mischief, Natalie gets down to brass tacks and makes things work. Nat brainstorms awesome ways to help clients with their business such as webinars, strategy sessions, and thought leadership pieces.

Brand Experience is the Future

As more and more companies realize that brands are as vital to their survival as DNA to humans, creative branding agencies like The Orangeblowfish will play a larger role in making the world a more creative, sustainably designed place.
