Not Going Out

Another Day In My Life

By Mike Singleton ๐Ÿ’œ Mikeydred Published 3 months ago โ€ข 3 min read

Introduction

Yesterday was the first day in a very long time that I didn't leave my house. I always feel I need to get out to clear my head and just have a complete change of screnery, though I often walk through the same places, slightly worried that when I go somewhere new that someone will ask me what I am doing there and treat me like a burglar casing the joint.

Why I Go Out

I have probably said this a million times on Vocal and elsewhere, my first reason fro going out is to clear my head and hopefully get inspiration to actually write something. I originally intended to write this yesterday, but whether it was because I hadn't gone out, or just because I am very lazy, I just couldn't be bothered to put my fingers to the keyboard and let this story out.

The thing is, it is coming out now at lot more easily than if I had tried yesterday. Ironically I ran out of milk so had to go to the corner shop this morning, so I have been out today, I am writing, and at this moment in time I have walk 1,500 steps which is about 0.6 of a mile. Yesterday I walked 3,000 steps in the house which, as you may have observed, is 1.2 miles.

I take pictures of things that interest me when I am on my walks especially cats. The other weak a guy shouted at me saying "Are you allowed to do that?". I asked him what he meant, he said "Are you allowed to take pictures of peoples houses?" . I said I didn't think there was a law preventing it but I wasn't taking pictures of houses and pointed to the cat I was photographing. He laughed and went on his merry way.

Part of the problem has been the grey and wet weather, I do find it particularly uninspiring, and though I went out this morning, when I got in the rain really started to come down, and while I sometimes do like rain, today it seems to be just washing away any inspiration that I might have.

Looking out of my window, the sky is absolutely featureless. That descriptive phrase "absolutely featureless" seems to convey so much but conveys absolutely nothing, or rather the description of nothing.

The weather seems to be brightening up so it is likely that I will be going out for a walk this lunchtime and getting some inspiration.

I do like to create things and I find that writing is probably the easiest creative area for me. Tonight I may take part in another radio interview, I can't act or think about writing a screenplay, I can write songs and music but there is a lot of things you have to get right and to match up when creating and recording a song, and I love to work with others but I have difficulty finding others to work with me.

Writing is something I can do alone, though I have a slight jealousy when I see others working together to produce stories and poetry, so I continue on producing my work and hoping that people do like it.

It is very seldom that I get bad feedback, so I think that what I do is appreciated by my friends and audience.

Conclusion

So I have given you just a bit about my odd day when I didn't go out, today will be different, and I do have a villanelle for a photographer and writer that I admire. I do contact people to ask if they would like me to do it adn when they say "Yes" I then start to think that I have really overstretched myself.

I know that they will love my work when I am finished, but I have put myself under pressure once more, but when I finish it I will have improved my abilities and put a smile on someone's face.

The music I have included is the excellent "Going Out" by the even more excellent Supergrass.
