When you look at the highest levels of productivity and success, you find that sometimes what seems least likely to improve productivity is actually necessary!

That is true of this Productivity Accelerator.

In the US, less than 50% of people utilize this tool.

These are the reasons they say they don't use it:

➼ Don't Feel They Need To

➼ Worried It Will Cause Them To Fall Behind

➼ Feel Bad About Co-Workers

➼ Feel It Hurts Career Prospects

➼ Worried They May Lose Their Job

➼ Leaders Discourage It

Yet, by not utilizing this, we as a society are at some of the highest levels of burnout ever seen.

Do you know what this Productivity Accelerator is?

Vacation.

How It Helps Productivity

Where you really start to see this Productivity Accelerator shine is in Flow States.

Flow States are when we do our best work and feel our best.

Flow States have been shown to increase productivity 500%.

For context, that means what most people get done in 5 days, someone in Flow could do in 1.

However, there are certain things that fuel, and certain things that dramatically hinder Flow States.

That is where Vacation comes in to help.

➼ Flow Requires Recovery

Flow States are high-energy states that the body can only maintain for limited amounts of time.

About 50 - 90 minutes at a time.

Then, your body requires rest.

However, the more often we go into Flow, the more often we need to recover.

If we do this consistently, over time our body benefits from larger doses of recovery.

Vacations give us a reason to take a large dose of recovery that we require.

➼ Flow Thrives In Novelty

One of the aspects of Flow that allow it to get triggered is Novelty.

When we do the exact same thing, over and over again, with no changes at all, we become bored.

This boredom works against Flow States.

Along with this, Flow needs new information coming in which allows the Flow State to use that information in new, interesting ways.

Vacations allow you to get that new flow of information to use, and it helps fuel the need for novelty in our lives.

➼ Vacations Work As A Focusing Tool

In Flow States, we need to use things to focus our minds.

It creates a challenge that allows the Flow State to become unlocked.

One of those focusing tools is creating hard deadlines.

For many people, Vacations become that hard deadline.

There are certain things that "need" to get done before they can go on vacation.

That becomes the focusing tool to unleash Flow.

The more often we get into Flow, the easier it becomes to get into Flow, so having vacations can unlock that more easily.

➼ Flow Suffers In Fear

When people are afraid, many of the processes in our bodies literally shut down and become unusable by us.

Flow States are one of those functions that suffer.

When we are afraid of falling behind, afraid of what will happen to co-workers, afraid of our career prospects, afraid of keeping a job, all of these prevent us from being able to get into Flow States.

To allow Flow States to come more easily, we need to get rid of many of these fears.

As Leaders, if we see that some of our employees have these fears, it is probable they have other fears as well that they aren't telling us about.

By lifting these fears off of our teams, we show them that they are in a safe environment, that understands what our physiologies need.

This can do wonders for unlocking more Flow States.

➼ Flow Excels With Teamwork

One of the fears mentioned above is that people are worried about how their vacation time will impact co-workers negatively.

This is a sign of a lack of teamwork.

Work should be something that can move and be done by the team as needed, and if one person is gone for a short period, it isn't a problem for anyone else.

Ideally, you want your team to be excited when others take vacations and happy to pick up the work.

That vacation could not only fuel the employee taking it, but it could also fuel EVERYONE else on the team!

One person's Flow State can pull others into Flow States WITH them!

One person's Novelty can inspire Novelty in the WHOLE team!

One person's vacation can inspire the Team with new HOPE for their upcoming vacations!

When one person comes back from vacation, knowing the rest of the team has their back, it can create deeper BUY-IN to the team!

As a Leader, if you play your cards right, Vacations become a Hyper-Fuel to Success for your team.
