Back in the early 2000s, blogging had started becoming a popular trend. With more and more people creating blogs on websites like Blogger, WordPress, etc. it seemed like the smartest new way to share your ideas and make some extra money.

But gradually people started shifting to other mediums for consuming content that relied more on short texts and audio/video format. This surely resulted in the exponential growth of social media platforms which truly changed the way content was consumed before.

However back in 2019, blogging started to make a return. Everyone started becoming more and more interested in such a long-form of written material. This certainly led to the emergence of many such platforms and the growth of old websites as well.

Let's look at some basic reasons why blogging is growing more especially since 2020.

Quarantine and Hobbies

When the world went into a sudden lockdown in March 2020, a lot of people returned to their old hobbies and passions. So, many amateur writers started blogging on such platforms. With the increase in writers, readers weren't far behind, so the overall audience for blogging also rose.

This was also a time when people were relatively free. So, a lot of them found new ways to engage themselves productively instead of just scrolling through redundant posts on social media. A lot of people started documenting their old and new experiences as well.

Opportunities for Freelancing

The past year has seen a lot of people lose their jobs due to the sudden crisis due to the Covid pandemic. Hence people started taking up remote freelancing jobs to earn some extra money. These skills such as designing, editing, content writing, etc became very handy in such adverse situations.

A lot of these blogging websites including Vocal have an amazing payment structure that empowers writers. This has encouraged a lot of young and old people to start blogging on these platforms.

No advertisements

A popular and valid complaint that people have with social media such as Facebook and Instagram is the excess advertisements that we have to consume. With the increase in their audience, these social networking sites have started showing ads after every 2-3 posts.

This has led to a lot of users getting repelled from such websites because it interrupts the flow of content consumption. These ads have become exceptionally curated to cater to our interests which truly feels like spying or eavesdropping at times.

Most blogging websites have a strict policy against ads which makes them very user friendly and not intrusive. This lets users consume good quality content without disruption or any propaganda.

Reading and Getting Information

Reading can never go out of style. While people may not be reading a lot of newspapers or books these days, they are surely reading blogs, memes and digital content. Blogging websites provide content on multiple topics which you can choose based on your interest.

From beginners to experts, it is very easy to get opinions on any topic or news item from across the world. Not just news, we can now get tutorials and guides to learn new things as well.

Education and Exposure

In a time when our world has become limited to our own houses, it is paramount to get some exposure to the outside world. These blogging websites allow users to get ranked in search engine results, thus giving them an enormous new audience.

Blogging goes hand in hand with educating. If you are an avid reader, you would surely know that blogs cover a wide range of subjects from technology to life lessons, fitness to DIY, food to fashion- anything you want to read is available on these websites.

In conclusion, it can be said that blogging is making a huge comeback and it is here to stay. With more bloggers contributing on different platforms, there is a surge of information coming our way. It's up to us to embrace and make use of these opportunities.
