I have cancelled by Draft2Digital Membership

Any author that has published works via Draft2Digital will have to pay an annual $12 a year if your profits are less than $100. I disagree with this. I think it's not fair because this is 98% people who publish work there. It is no longer a free site. And if you want to make a new account, it will cost you $20. They have made these charges as a maintence fe and as a way to stop spammers posting AI and low quality junk.

It's not going to stop the AI slop or low content books. I think it's only going to make things worse. I still have my draft of Heavenly Seas that I want to put out in paperback. I have considered putting all my books on Lulu too as well as Amazon. To be honest, I think most of my book sales have come from Amazon, and whether you like Amazon or not, they've been good for book authors.

The email came across all of a sudden. I did not consent to this, so I am going to close my account. Draft2Digital was good for formatting books, although it was hard to do with poetry. We are are a cost of living crisis and AI is already scaring the book industry.

I hope they reverse it or find a better solution. I haven't been on Draft2Digital in a long time, but I have a vibe that this is going to be end of the road. Smash Words was awesome and I thought the merge with Draft2Digital would bring great things. My books are gonna be delisted in lots of other places, but I hope that one day they will be able to come back and be able to reach places that Draft2 Digital used to reach for me.

I have had books translated through Babelcube. They use Draft2Digital, and I think with the amount of books they have in their catalogue, they should easilly be able to avoid this charge. These new changes only benefit people that are making lots of money through their published works. I know there's a lot of people trying to push away from Amazon and KDP, but it seems to be the only viable option.

The publishing industry isn't the same as what it used to be. There's still a lot of things that I don't know much about. A lot of my poetry books are quite small and over the years, I have written more poems. I think instead of publishing more books, (I've written around fifteen but also have created some notebooks too), I should work on expanding them and making them even better than before.

To be honest with you, I've actually made more writing on Vocal and the authors liscencing collector's in the UK than I have through Draft2Digital, but I always liked having it there. I think it's a shame that indie authors are getting paywalled out. It's bad enough trying to get your book traditionally published. Hopefully there will be other outlets like Ingram and Lulu that can offer that good alternative to Amazon KDP.

It's a real shame that a lot of new authors haven't got the same oppurtunies and outlets that I did when I was starting out. It's all really come at a bad time because a lot of authors are getting harassed by fake publishing deals. Most of us know they're not real, but it's so annoying and they bypass the spam filters. I saw someone on Youtube comment that they've been getting harrassed on the phone. People might assume that Draft2Digital is also a scam now.
