Every business should have a website. As far as having a personal website, it is less important but can still be valuable for letting others know about you, and can even be helpful for potential employers when trying to find out about you. Most companies that are successful have a website. Without a website, a business is only as successful as the local influence it has. If you have a professional website, visitors will trust you more than if you one that looks unprofessional and haphazard. Websites can say a lot about you and or your company.

How to make your site look professional

So how do we define "professional"? Well, look at the websites from the top companies in the world: Apple, Amazon, Uber, Airbnb. These are all considered very professional and in this day and age professional means clean. A clean website has a great layout and is easy to navigate, an unprofessional website is the opposite. A professional website should have a short domain name, it should not look like its a template, it must have professional photos, the text needs to be short and powerful, and scrolling down the page should be an experience for the user.

Domain Names

Having a name like wesellthebestwhateverintheworld.com is too much. It’s hard to type, and isn’t aesthetically pleasing. You could shorten that to be an acronym like bitw.com or bestintheworld.com and it would still be good. There's a reason why amazon.com, apple.com, airbnb.com, alibaba.com, and all these other great websites are professional, and that's because you want the user to be able to type in the domain in one or two words that are easy to spell and remember.

Do Not Launch Templates

There are plenty of website design companies where you could launch the templates they offer, but imagine if everyone did that. There would be hundreds of websites that looked the same and yours would be lost in cyberspace. Yes, you can use templates as a starting point, but make sure to add your own flair and creative touch to it. Use a logo creator site that can help tie your pages together across your website. A unique page layout, design, and logo can do a lot to separate you from the rest.

Use Professional Photos

Gone are the days of using clipart. Avoid using campy old clipart images. There are hundreds of websites like pexels.com where you can find high quality, high resolution photos for free. A professional free photo is the best way to go when you don't have the money to hire a photographer to create custom photos for you, and all you have to do is click the "download" button.

Less Text is Better

The only pages that have an enormous amount of text are landing pages that sell $1,000+ education courses or products, and there's a psychological reason for doing this. However, you shouldn't do this with your website or else people will leave immediately. The old cliche of one image is worth a thousand words is true when it comes to websites, so show instead of telling.

Add Scrolling Effects

Finally, adding some subtle yet visible animation when you scroll down your page will let people know that you're taking the time to create an experience. Maybe your photos come in from the side or fade into the page. There are plenty of effects you can add so seek out some of the most powerful companies in the world and see what they're doing.

In conclusion in this article we discussed the topic of how to make a website more professional. Having a professional website from the start will give your visitors a calming sensation knowing that you took the time to make it powerful and that you care about your branding. There are many steps but these are some important ones that can make a change.
