There are a lot of opportunities for writers to earn money. Many platforms allow writers to publish their content and earn through it. Vocal media is one of them and provides you an opportunity to monetize your writing skills.

Continue reading this article to know about Vocal media and learn how you can earn money by writing over there.

What is Vocal Media?

Vocal media is a platform that allows writers to publish their stories (articles are known as stories on vocal media) and earn money through them. It is a US-based platform introduced in 2016.

You can write anything on vocal media as long as you stick to their guidelines. You can also republish the old content that you have written on other platforms.

Stories should contain more than 600 words and poems should contain more than 100 words to get published on Vocal media.

It is free to join and you can start writing immediately after joining and earn money.

Is Vocal Media Worth Your Effort?

Authors on vocal media are paid according to the number of reads their stories get. Their pay rate is $3.80 per 1000 reads for regular creators and for Vocal+ members they pay $6 per 1000 reads. (I will discuss vocal plus membership later in the article)

Vocal media pays you for every read that you get regardless of the source. This means it pays you for every read that you get from sharing your story on social media and by organic traffic through google.

So, if you have social media presence or you know how to do SEO then you can earn thousands of dollars on Vocal media. Vocal media has a domain authority of 70+, so you can easily rank on low-competition keywords.

Ways to Make Money by Writing on Vocal Media

There are 5 ways through which you can earn money by writing on Vocal media.

Through Reads

Vocal media pays you based on reads as I said above. $3.80 per 1000 reads to regular creators and $6 to Vocal+ members. Vocal pays for both internal and external reads.

Through Tips

Tipping is another source of income on Vocal media. Vocal media allows readers to tip their favorite creators.

It is a great way for the readers to reward the creators for their hard work.

Tips are directly sent to your stripe account without making any payment request.

Through Bonuses

Vocal respects its creators and rewards them with bonuses for their hard work. You can get bonuses for various reasons.

Here is how much bonuses you can get

  • $5 When you publish your first 5 stories
  • $10 When you publish your first 10 stories
  • $50 When you publish your first 50 stories
  • $5 When you like 15 random stories on Vocal media
  • $5 When your stories reach 1000 reads
  • $5 When your story gets picked as a top story
  • $5 When your story gets engagement on social media

Note: All bonuses are not guaranteed. These bonuses are reported by creators and are not announced by Vocal media officially.

In my case, I have published 6 stories till now and have got a bonus of $5 for publishing 5 stories. Read more on bonuses here

Through Contests

Vocal media creators can also earn money through Vocal media challenges. Vocal media runs different challenges every month. Challenges are the opportunity for content creators to show their creativity and skills.

There are various prizes for winners. Generally, it’s $1000 for the first prize, $500 for the second prize, and $250 for the third prize.

The majority of the challenges are only open to Vocal+ members.

Through Pledges

Pledges are another way through which readers support their favorite creators. You have to be a Vocal+ member to receive a pledge. If a reader supports you, you can earn recurring $2.99 per month.

Pledges are monthly tips that you get every month and are sent directly to your stripe account.

Through the ambassador program

Vocal has also introduced its ambassador program through which you can earn $20 for every Vocal+ member that you refer. You can easily register for the ambassador program by proving your name and email address.

What is Vocal+ and Is It Worth it

Vocal+ is a paid membership on Vocal media that gives you some additional perks and features. You will have to pay $10 per month for enjoying those benefits.

Writing and earning on vocal media is free for everyone but by spending an extra $10 you will get the following benefits:

  • Regular creators get $3.80 for 1000 reads but vocal+ members get $6 for 1000 reads.
  • You will get the Vocal+ badge.
  • The minimum withdrawal balance will be reduced from $35 to $20.
  • Platform processing fees on tips will be reduced from 7% to 2.9%.
  • You will get access to Vocal+ exclusive challenges.
  • Ability to quickly edit your published stories.
  • Ability to receive pledges from your readers.

Now the question is, is it worth it? If you are an established creator on Vocal media with tens of thousands of monthly views, then it is worth paying $10. You will make $6 for every 1000 reads and will be able to earn more.

Let’s say you are getting 2000 reads per month and make around $7.6 per month as a regular creator and with a Vocal+ membership, you will make $12 for the same number of reads. But you will be paying $10 for Vocal+ membership and will be left with just $2. In this case, it’s better to be a regular creator.

Payment Method?

Vocal media uses stripe as its payment method. If you want to earn through vocal media, you will need to make a stripe account. All money that you earn through reads and bonuses will be transferred to your wallet on Vocal media. You will have to make a payment request to transfer that to your stripe account.

The minimum payment withdrawal for regular creators is $35 and for Vocal+ members, it’s $20.

Vocal Media Vs Medium

Both Vocal media and Medium are great platforms for writers to earn money. Both of them have some similarities as well as some differences.

Medium is more like social media where you get views from an internal audience. You don’t need to know SEO to get more views, you just need to write good stories and your content will be distributed among readers. They have a nice content distribution system.

On the other hand, if you know how to do SEO you can do well on the vocal medium. Vocal media counts both internal and external reads for payment.

On medium, you get 3 free reads every month. After that, you will have to upgrade to a paid membership for $5 per month for unlimited content.

While on Vocal media you can read unlimited stories for free. They do have a paid option as well called Vocal+ which gives you some extra benefits. Like more money for reads, the ability to edit published stories, a low withdrawal barrier, etc.

Both of these platforms allow you to write for free.

Both of these platforms use stripe as a payment gateway.
