How to find ourselves in 2020

And what you can do now in a world of lockdowns

I think we all know what 2020 has become. In the beginning it seemed so bright. Yet, now we are all waiting for the 2021 count down. But, who’s to say that we cannot find light in this so-called darkness of 2020.

A year of quarantines and lockdowns. -- Some countries have smaller levels of lockdowns while others have complete shut downs with curfews and even only being allowed to travel certain miles from your house.

The question is, what we should do when we can rarely go out. We can't party, we can’t go to concerts, we can't travel, and we can't even go to see a movie. Unless, perhaps we go on YouTube. It seems like we have nothing to do but that is far from the truth.

We can learn a new language. From Spanish to Russian. Then we can download a new app to practice a language exchange. Become fluent in the process of trying something new and exciting from our own homes. Never once leaving our house to partake in group activities not because don't want to but because we simply can't.

We can start new hobbies such as some form of art. Like painting, ceramics and even, glass painting.

We can write stories, poems, and even become our own video editors.

Trying to gain money from any talent that we have. We do our best to find jobs online and remote. Because even when the world is in lockdown. We still have bills to pay.

Like it or not, it seems like our world is becoming more and more virtual and less human and in person. At least for now.

Will we start to fully merge into a virtual world or will this year help us become less dependent on our beloved technology? Allowing us to realize just how nice it is to get outside of the house and talk to people in person. To go for a hike. To explore the nature around us. To just not have any form of technology with us and instead go star gazing on the tallest mountains.

So, what can we do in times like this? We can plan a new future for ourselves, right? Maybe, we will find out just what we want to do when this is all over.

Move to a new country and never look back.

Find a career in something we love.

Even if it is not in your "degree" or trade. As long as it makes your happy then its worth it.

Spend more time with family and friends. Maybe, even make new friends while out walking around your neighborhood.

2020 is for more than one reason, a reflective year and while it can and is a little scary there is always light in the darkness. All of us have different forms of light. Finding out who our unique selves really is, is never easy at the best of times. Times like this however, will push us out of our comfort zones and who knows what we will happen. They say pressure turns coal into diamonds. Why can't that be us.

Why not change our perspective on this year. Change it to a year of self-reflection. A year of new beginnings. Where we watch doors, slam shut and new ones begin to open.

One thing is for sure. I think all of us should take the time to breathe because maybe we can take this time to become our true unique selves and begin the future that we want instead of what we thought we wanted.

Stay safe and always look forward to the future.
