How Our Facebook Vocal Groups Evolve

Personal Observations On Growing Our Facebook Vocal Groups And Keeping Them A Perfect Place For Readers , Writers and Creators

Come Together and Grow

I often see people posting old Vocal stories to increase the reads, but the problem is once you have read a Vocal story , further visits will not increase the reads on that story. I thought it is a bit pointless sharing old stories because only new readers will count.

But then I started thinking (I do sometimes think believe it or not) , the writing communities have a smallish hardcore of writers who always were writers and always will be writers. These will always read what you write and create when they actually see what you produce, but although they will forget a lot of what they read, the Vocal server will not, so when they , or you , revisit , there will be no extra reads for the creator of the story.

Outside of the hardcore creators we have a sort of flux flow. These are people who join up and then get bored and drop off. This flux flow group also has different types of people. There are those who join for a quick buck and realise that they can’t make it. Some only ever post one story on Vocal and then disappear. The same with joining the Facebook group, but without a love of writing and / or reading they will soon be lost to the Facebook groups and Vocal.

Others may drop off because of life commitments but then return later. What this means is that the flux flow group has potential to capture new reads because of it’s ever changing nature.

Again the core group can ask friends into the groups , and the groups (especially Vocal Social Society) provide a spot to read themed posts and comment on them and even reply to posts with more posts building a great reading list.

The Vocal Progressive Group For Writers And Readers has daily and themed threads and allows solo posts but is also like Vocal Social Society) good to just read .

The Medium Writers and Vocal Creators Support Group is less themed but usually has daily threads and many collaborative initiatives.

All these attract new creators into our Vocal groups who then become readers though what we need to do is keep those members as permanent Vocal Facebook members who ideally contribute on a daily basis as creators and readers.

However to keep people involved we need to interact and encourage them to create and respond to our environment.

These are just the three groups that I am most active with but there are many more for people to be involved in with different foci which may attract different types of creators.

We need to address the boredom factor to stop people dropping off and that maybe competitions or collaborations or requesting for community focussed writing.

This puts a lot on the administrators of the groups to ensure they are contemporary , relevant and interesting , otherwise they will eventually “404” so to speak (when a web page cant be found an error 404 is generated). However past and current performances show they are up to the task , but they need members to be part of the set up to make it a success.

Without these groups I would not exist as a writer. Vocal reads by these group members more than pay for my Vocal subscription , but I have to contribute and interact by reading and commenting , which is then returned to me.

I am most active as a Group Expert in Vocal Social Society and have helped a little to get it;s membership up to eight hundred members, but not all of them are consistently active, it would be good to grow activity in all the groups .

Since I joined the Vocal Facebook groups , most of my Facebook traffic is Vocal related from Vocal friends and groups. They keep me wanting to write. There are some bumpy bits but this is a worthwhile creative enterprise and I am proud to be part of it.

I want everyone I welcome to our groups to feel that way.

Maybe the song for this is The Beatles "Come Together" because that's what we really want.
