Freelancing is Beneficial to All!

Freelancing is undoubtedly the latest buzz going around in the grapevine of every profession because of the fact that it is one of the most convenient ways of working. Be it for a graphic designing job, content writing or the endless number of professions that do not require physical presence of the employee in the office, this form of working is only seeing an escalation on its graph.

Freelancing refers to working for an organisation without being required to commute to the office on a daily basis. A freelancer is his own decision maker in terms of when, where and how many companies he/she wants to work for. The whole idea is about the number of projects one gets or takes up to complete with a deadline given by the employer for the same. This allows the professional to manage his time according to his convenience irrespective of the day of the week or the time of the day.

When this concept of “self-employment” started in the West, it soared so high that statistics claim that there are around 57 million and counting today in the U.S. and has also popularised in our beloved India. According to Freelancer.com, Indians comprise 38% of the market on their website. That is not too surprising considering the fact that it pays well and isn’t a rigid way of working.

As much as it may seem to be beneficial only to the employee, that’s just a myth. Even business owners and employers seek freelancers because of the fact that they have their own share of advantages when hiring one.

Let’s take you through the advantages it holds for both- the employer and the employee:

How Freelancing is Beneficial for an Employee

As mentioned earlier, freelancing allows one to take charge of how, when and where they work, which is certainly suitable for most people. That means that apart from focusing just on work, they get to decide how they want to divide their time while taking various other aspects of their week, day and month into consideration. Not everyone wants to live life the typical 9-5 way.

Today, many people like to travel from one place to the other, like to take up various professions, etc. Many people like to visit new places and also earn simultaneously which is majorly why they prefer this style of working. Apart from this, people are getting used to the idea of totally eliminating the difference between night and day, allowing them to do what they want to, when they want to. Many mothers today who have children under 18 also prefer freelancing in order to have a source of income while taking care of their children at home.

It can be safe to say that most coworking spaces see freelancers take up a major part of their clientele. Different co working spaces cater to the needs of different freelancers with different mind sets and most of them are open round the clock, irrespective of the day of the week. While taking the phrase “creativity comes in uncertainty” seriously, youngsters these days do not believe that their ideas can be forced out of their brain only at a specific time of the day, which is a notion that can be said to be true. Co working encourages that way of thinking and offers a plethora of spaces to help their clients feel fulfilled with their work environment, giving them the motivation they need.

How it is Beneficial for an Employer

Many employers do not necessarily find the need to hire full time workers to help run their business. The more the employees in office, the more is the need for space which adds to the investment in space and furniture. If one can get a dedicated freelancer to help with projects while working remotely, then there’s nothing like it. It may take a while to find and hire the right one; who shows dedication, passion and other qualities that an employer looks for, but there is no shortage of freelancers today and the possibility to find the right one is quite high.

The phrase “as you sow, so shall you reap” is true when it comes to this way of working, because one cannot stick around for long as a freelancer unless he/she puts in the maximum amount of effort it takes to provide quality work within a given time frame. After all, not everything is rainbows and unicorns and a combination of hard and smart work is what pays off in the end, irrespective of how liable one is to their firm and employer.
