ODI DEBUT

Shubman Gill made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in 2018 in a One Day International (ODI) match against New Zealand. He was just 19 years old at the time, and had already made a name for himself in domestic cricket with his consistent performances for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy and for India A.

In his debut match, Gill batted at number three and scored 45 runs off 59 balls, including 4 fours. Although India lost the match, Gill's composed and confident batting impressed many and marked him as a player to watch out for in the future.

Shubman Gill made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018. He was bought by the team for a sum of 1.8 crores INR. In his debut season, he played 10 matches and scored 203 runs at an average of 33.83. He impressed many with his performances and was considered as one of the rising stars of Indian cricket.

Since then he played for KKR, Punjab Kings, and has been a consistent performer in the tournament. His steady performances earned him a spot in the Indian national cricket team for the tours of New Zealand and England.

Gill’s stunning knock saw him join elite company as one of just eight players in the history of the game to have reached the milestone in a Men’s ODI, and the youngest of those eight players.

The young opener fell in the final over to close out his knock on 208 from 149 balls, having hit 19 fours and nine maximums in his innings to lift India to a score of 349/8. The next highest score in the innings was 34.

He hails from Fazilka, a small town in Punjab, India.

He started playing cricket at a very young age, and was coached by his father Lakhwinder Singh Gill who was also a cricketer.

In 2018, he was named the captain of the India U-19 team for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

He was the highest run-scorer for India in the tournament and was also named the player of the tournament.
