The 6.3-inch display on the Pixel 7 is smaller than the 6.4-inch display on the Pixel 6 but larger than the 6.1-inch display on the Pixel 6A. The Pixel 7 appears to be one-handed friendly after a few minutes. The Pixel 7’s display has the same 2,400 x 1,080-pixel resolution as the Pixel 6, although it has a higher pixel density of 416 PPI rather than 411 PPI due to its smaller size. The refresh rate of the OLED display has been upped to 90Hz, as with its predecessor, for smoother scrolling.

The Pixel 7’s front has a second major distinction. The 10.8-megapixel boost to the Pixel 6’s 8-megapixel selfie camera aids with face unlock. According to Google, face unlock is less secure than the Pixel’s under-display fingerprint sensor or PIN. Face unlock is touted as a faster way to unlock your phone rather than as a payment and other key task authentication mechanism.

The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have a larger camera bar than the Pixel 6 series. The Google Pixel 7 comes in three colours: obsidian, snow, and lemongrass.

Google showed that the Pixel 7’s camera differs from the Pixel 6. In particular, the zoom quality. When magnified by 2x, the Pixel 7’s 50-megapixel primary sensor shrinks to 12.5 megapixels, giving an image as sharp as a 2x optical lens. The digital zoom on the Pixel 7 is 8x, up from 7x on the Pixel 6. I recorded images with a 2x magnification in Google’s demonstration room that was sharp but difficult to identify on a small monitor.

Only the Pixel 7 Pro boasts a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. The Pixel 7 Pro will offer a brand-new macro photography mode.
