You were first stressed by job interviews. After the interview, you were relieved that you escaped, but a new stressor appeared: did you make a good impression? Will they hire you? You passed the interview, they hired you, you were happy, but another concern appeared on the horizon: your first day at your new job.

Who says it's easy, it's hard to move from one job to another, or lies or doesn't know what to say. The first day at the new job is very stressful, but most of the time very interesting. It is said that the first impression matters a lot and in most cases it is. The first contact with people, with the atmosphere at the office, with the places, can give you some very valuable information for later when you will be "theirs".

On the other hand, it's hard for you because you don't know anyone, you feel completely "outside" when new colleagues talk to each other, you get lost in the hallways, you sit and wait awkwardly for the person who she was appointed to do so.

Moreover, most of the time, on the first day, you are told that your office has not yet been set up, a computer where you can work, that you have not been given anything to do yet. Because of this, you are in the awkward situation of sharing the office with someone else or sitting in a colleague's chair, watching others stir and do their job.

It doesn't sound very good, does it? And if it's the first time you've been through something like this, all these sensations become even harder to bear. But there is no need to be overwhelmed. There are many tricks that can help you make an impeccable business card from day one.

General information about the first day

As I said, the first day is not usually a day of work, but one of accommodation, contact, and information. You will know your colleagues, your superiors, you will become very familiar with the structure of the company, with the internal rules, you will receive the answers to most of the questions you ask. It is important to be calm and patient and do not forget that it is essential to make a good impression from the beginning, so as not to be isolated from the start. Try not to be overwhelmed with numbers, numbers, information - select what is really important, because, anyway, at the end of the day you will have a memory so full that you will not remember anything.

Meet your colleagues

It's the first thing you need to do: meet new colleagues and bosses. Try to remember their names and functions. You can even ask for a list of phone numbers or interiors where you can find them. If after a week you don't know their name, you may have problems - such mistakes are forgiven on the first day, but then they are charged.

Don't confuse kindness with friendship

In general, the first person you approach is the one who guides you on the first day. But be careful: don't expect too much from this person because, no matter how nice she is to you, this is just her job. It doesn't mean she's your girlfriend.

Don't do science

You will be able to show the performances you are capable of later. At this stage, it is important to look motivated, attentive, and interested in how things are going at your new job. Plus, you'll be getting rid of clutter you don't need from day one. So avoid phrases like, "Why are you doing this? I know a better and easier way to do it!"

Working system

Open your eyes and ears. The working system is the most important. You have to learn how to work and how to communicate in the company. Observe carefully the rules that everyone tacitly follows. This will help you figure out what you need to adjust to your behavior in order to comply with the company's rules from the beginning.

Dress code

In order to integrate without difficulty in the company, you must know its dress code. How do other colleagues dress? Is there an unwritten law of dress code? If in doubt, ask a colleague or the Human Resources Department. It is not a shame, on the contrary, your integration effort will be appreciated.

Working hours

Sometimes, when you are hired, you are clearly told what the work schedule is, but then you find that the employees come or leave at other times than you were told.

Don't let yourself be influenced by colleagues who come and go after a program known only to them. Try to find out what are the arrival and departure times agreed by the bosses. In the first months, don't make the mistake of leaving the office first.

Avoid confessions

Find people who can become your allies as soon as possible. Don't be alarmed if at first your colleagues are reserved for you. You are new and most of the time they are already divided into "churches". Even if you notice the "clubs" of friends, avoid leaning towards one group or another.

Be kind and friendly to everyone. There will be people who will try to pull your tongue, tell them your story, who you are, how you are, what you did, how you did it, etc. Be reserved, not wild. Answer the questions without giving too many details and try to turn the discussion in your favor. The idea is for them to know about you strictly necessary, and you about them - as much as possible. Confessions are never made on the first day.

Thoughts that stress you on the first day of work

I didn't make a good choice

You will go through moments when you will be convinced that you made a mistake in choosing that job. It is not at all abnormal to have such a reaction. After all, there is no one-size-fits-all job. After making a radical decision such as changing your job, it is natural to have such doubts at first, so have a little patience and take a break to get used to it.

I have no idea what to do

In the first period, you will feel lost, you will have the impression that you do not have the necessary knowledge for the new job, that you will make fun of yourself. Don't worry so much! Nobody expects you to know everything from day one. Each company has its own habits, its own style of work. Only after the first three months can you say that you have become familiar with the new work atmosphere and you will know clearly what your tasks are.

I'm going to make all kinds of mistakes

You can be sure of that! That's exactly what I was saying above. In the first month, you have all the chances to make mistakes precisely because you are not familiar with the way the company works. If you're stupid, it's okay. Admit it, apologize and learn from mistakes.

Don't try to give a thousand explanations. You know no one cares. You were wrong, period. Try to fix the mistake and make sure you don't repeat it. Those around you will understand.

I will not cope

This is the most common stress factor, especially for people who are at the beginning of their careers. You will have to get used to it because you will always have a lot of tasks to complete and never enough time to complete them. Do not panic; set priorities and work on a single project at once. In addition, learn to refuse tasks when necessary.
