Easy Ways To Improve Your Career Prospects
Five simple and easy tips that can make a massive difference!
Whether you want a different job, you're seeking a promotion or you're embarking on a completely different career, knowing some ways you can improve your career prospects is always welcomed I believe.
Here are my top five tips!
#1 Evaluate Yourself
Taking the time to evaluate yourself is the first step you need to take before doing anything else.
Ask yourself these questions:
- What skills do you have? What are your strongest and weakest point in your professional life?
- How are you satisfied with your present job? What would you change? Why?
- How can you improve? What other skills do you think you need to get your dream job or promotion?
Doing this initial evaluation will allow you to set clear goals for your career, and to know exaclty what you can do to improve it and what steps you need to follow to get where you want professionally.
#2 Learning New Skills
When you learn a new skill, you not only improve your chances of landing a new job, but you also open up new career opportunities. A couple of benefits of learning new skills:
1. You'll be more employable.
If you're able to learn new skills quickly, you'll be more employable. Employers are always looking for ways to cut costs, so learning new skills can give you an edge over your competition.
2. You'll be more marketable.
If you can demonstrate that you're knowledgeable and skilled in a new area, you'll be more marketable. Employers want employees who can add value.
You know what's good? Thanks to the internet, it's really easy to learn new skills or at least get your feet wet to start with.
Whether you decide to go for a 1-on-1 online coaching, or take a skillshare course, or decide to buy an online course to follow at your own rythm, the ways are endless, you only need the will.
#3 Getting Certifications & Licenses
After learning a new skill, the next step would be to get a certification for it.
Maybe you already have skills but no certification?
Do yourself a big favor and get your hands on one. Certifications add credibility and that's why they always matter. No matter how relaxed your workfield or your job is
Certifications can validate your skills and help you stand out from the competition. Certifications can also help you find new opportunities and increase your earning potential.
Here are some of the benefits of getting certifications for your career:
1. Validating your skills.
Certifications can help you validate your skills and show that you have the knowledge and expertise required for your career. This can help you stand out from the competition and make you more attractive to potential employers.
2. Finding new opportunities.
Certifications can help you find new opportunities. By demonstrating your skills and knowledge you're more likely to be given the chance to try something new.
The great part is that now, it's easier than ever for you to get an online certification that will boost your career prospects.
For example, Google itself offers an online ad marketing training totally for free. After completion, you get your certificate! There are tons of similar programs on the net, just do your research (or maybe I'll do it for you and share it in another post!)
#4 Improve Your Communication Skills
Communication is one of the most important skills you'll need in your career. It's essential to be able to effectively communicate with your supervisor, coworkers, clients, and others.
Sadly no matter how many certifications you have, if you have communication skills it'll both make you lose many opportunities.
Having good communication skill can help you in turning the simplest of situation into a professional opportunity, can help you get a bonus from a very satisfied client and it can also help you rise quickly in the hierarchy of your company because it is the mark of a leader.
Here are a few tips to improve your communication skills:
1. Take the time to learn about the other person's position. Knowing what their job is, what they're responsible for, and what their goals are will help you communicate more effectively.
2. Be aware of your body language. Your body language can say a lot about how you're feeling and what you're thinking. Avoid crossing your arms, puffing your chest, and giving the impression that you're not.
3. Learn to listen more actively. Pay attention to their tone, the vocabulary they're using, the true message they're trying to convey. Being an active listener makes it easier for you to be solve problems effectively.
#5 Involve Yourself In Social Activites
Joining communities and social groups in which you are interested can prove to be a huge asset in improving your career prospects.
Not only will this help you in evaluating your personal, social and communication skills, it'll allow you to improve them, and build up your self-esteem and confidence.
It can also be a great way to network because you never know when your next big job might be hiding!
