Think about it…

A bottle of beer can be $0.50 at a supermarket, $2 at a small café, $5 at a night club, or $15 in Ibiza. It's the same product, the only thing that's different, is the place.

This also applies to you.

Your environment creates your value

Just like the price of that bottle of beer changes depending on it’s location, so does your own value change depending on where you are.

If you surround yourself with losers, negative people, bad habits, bad food… all types of bad things... how do you think this will affect you? Your value will go down. Your self-esteem, your net worth, your motivation will go down (most likely).

On the other hand, if you surround yourself with winners and high-value people, your value will increase as well. So, BE LIKE THAT BOTTLE OF BEER!

It’s a known psychological fact, that if you live or interact with other people long enough, you are way more likely pick up some of their behaviours, mannerisms, facial expressions, and gestures.

Needless to say, hanging around in a bad environment has a negative impact on you and your value.

So what does this tell us?

Low value? Change environment!

Simply said: the next time you feel worthless, move. It’s not you, it’s the place.

Are you unhappy at your job? There are countless of other opportunities. We’re not living in the 50’s anymore where you had to keep your job at the factory to maintain a steady income.

Same thing goes for where you live. If you don’t have a wife and kids, or other obligations yet, why not try living abroad for a while?

Live abroad!

If you can, I would always recommend living abroad for a while.

This can be beneficial for several reasons.

  • You can get to know a new culture
  • You can learn a new language,
  • You can develop new perspectives on life
  • You’ll learn to become more independent and self-sufficient
  • You can meet new people, make new friends,
  • You can broaden your professional network
  • ….

Overall, living abroad can be a transformative experience that can help you to grow personally and professionally.

Feeling down and worthless?

If you’re feeling down and worthless, don’t just sit there and dwell on your negative thoughts.

Get up and move to a different environment! Usually it’s not you that’s the problem, it’s the place you’re in that’s bringing you down.

You’re worth more than you think, and don’t let anyone make you believe otherwise. You have the power to change your environment and improve your mindset.

Remember that you are in control of your own worth and value, so don’t let external factors bring you down.

Compare and make choices

I was born in a small city in Belgium. After my IT studies, I got a job in my own city. Even though the job was nice, my pay check was not.

So, I decided to go and check out other opportunities. This is how I found a job in Brussels — nearly the same job, by my salary was 30% higher!

30%! I increased my “value” with 30%!

Your social circle

While your job is important, your social circle is even more important.

If your social circle exists solely of no-life gamers, drug addicts, TV addicts or anything of the sorts, then I recommend reviewing your choice of friends.

Side note: I’m not saying these people can’t achieve anything in life, with these examples I’m just describing the worst-case stereotypes that do not WANT to improve themselves.

Surround yourself with Winners

If you have 2 millionaire friends, you’re going to be the third.

Don’t be afraid of change.

Around 7 years ago, I was constantly playing video games, eating unhealthy, working and watching TV. I was just… working my 9–5 job and “passing my time”.

I couldn’t call it “living life”, because I wasn’t really living. All my time went into video games and working.

At some point in my life, this all changed. I changed. I’ll write a story about this another time, about what triggered me to change. But anyway, here’s what I did:

  • I moved to another city
  • I made new friends (entrepreneurs, finance experts, bookkeepers, real estate investors, bankers…)
  • I switched jobs
  • I started paying attention to myself, my health and my knowledge
  • I started my first side-hustles.

Most of these things were made possible because I met new, inspiring people. They pushed and inspired me to do better, to BE better.

So remember, there are always opportunities, but it’s up to you to attract them.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  1. Feeling low or worthless can sometimes be caused by your environment, rather than by you.
  2. Changing your environment can help you feel more valuable and increase your self-worth.
  3. Remember that you are worth more than you think, regardless of what others may lead you to believe.
  4. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who value you for who you are.
  5. Practice self-care and prioritize activities that make you feel good about yourself.
  6. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things that can help you grow and build your confidence.

Lastly, always remember that your worth is not determined by external factors, such as your job, status, or possessions, but by who you are as a person.
