I want to make this clear: dropshipping is not a get rich quick scheme, nor is it a guarantee that you will get rich, however if you do everything right (and I mean everything) you might just see profits anywhere from 3, 4 or even 5-6 figures per day. The following is about my experiences with Dropshipping, any financial decisions you make are solely your own and you are solely responsible for the outcomes.

What even is Dropshipping?

Picture this: you're shopping at your favourite online boutique and you buy this amazing necklace for $39.99. Chances are you just bought a product that was dropshipped and the seller made over $30 in profits on that sale. How do I know this? Because I used to be one of those sellers. In its most simple form, dropshipping is purchasing products at a low price from suppliers in China (and other countries, but usually China) and selling the products at a higher price to keep the profits. Pretty smart right? Here is an example:

The product is the same, but the prices are drastically different

The site above is Aliexpress and it is where a lot of dropshippers get their products. The site below is a site that dropships said product and makes a $20 profit per sale. Dropshippers only order a product when they themselves get a sale. That essentially creates a no risk, all reward model.

If Dropshipping is so simple why doesn't everybody do it?

The truth is, Dropshipping is a lot harder than it looks, and 99% of dropshippers actually fail. It is easy to look at both sites and see the opportunity, but so many people overlook the work it takes to find winning products (products that sell), how hard it is to build a nice site, and advertising. Furthermore, the reason why dropshipping works is because your average consumer does not know the expensive product they just purchased could have been bought for 90% less dollars. If they don't have that information, odds are they won't know they have the ability to sell either.

Elements of Dropshipping

Product Research: the importance of picking the right product cannot be understated. Think about it like this: if you saw a cheese grater for sale online, would you buy that product? Or would you rather just go to your local supermarket and pick one up for yourself? 99% of people would choose the latter. Product research sounds easy, but in reality it is not, think of all the competition you would be facing when you get started, if you think a product is good to sell, chances are another dropshipper feels that way as well.

Advertising: advertising is just as difficult as product selection, and is where majority of your expenses are going to be. Most dropshippers tend to gravitate towards facebook when deciding where to run ads, and for good reason as well. I won't go too deep into it, but proper advertising is crucial to your success as a dropshipper. If you don't figure out advertising and jiust start throwing money at it, chances are you'll simply be wasting away your dough.

Web Design: I assume this one is obvious to most of you guys. Would you rather purchase a product from a sketchy site that is riddled with errors, or a nice, clean site that looks reputable? It is your job to make a site you would buy from, and after you have that, make it even better.

How do I get started?

As cheesy as it sounds, the first step is to believe in yourself. believe that you have the ability to turn $20 into $40 and $40 into $100 and so on. You need to believe that you have the power to make thousands of dollars, because the truth is you do! When I first started, I lost over $300 before I started to turn a profit and there were so many points along the way where I just wanted to give up. If I'd quit, I would have lost a lot of money, but I stuck with it and made all my money back and then some.

You also need to set a clear budget, you can spend hundreds of dollars pushing a product, but sometimes the product is simply bad and can't be sold. It is important to not get emotional and cut off a product that is not working and move to the next one.

Research, research, research! Watch YouTube videos, and read articles, look at other Dropshipping sites and product pages. Do whatever it takes to give you a working knowledge of the industry so you have a head start.

Get started. As much as it sucks, reading this article won't make you rich. 1000 hours of research won't make you rich. What you do with your new found knowledge, however, might just get you there!
