Introduction:

On May 30, Moscow faced a drone assault that was directed against a number of the city's structures. Although several structures sustained minor damage as a result of the attack, no casualties were indicated. An summary of the incident, including information on the impacted locations, the response of the authorities, and the effects of the assault, is given in this article.

Buildings in Moscow are damaged by drone attacks:

Moscow On May 30, a drone strike was reported by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on his Telegram channel. Over 10 drones were reportedly shot down during the raid in the Moscow region, according to many reports. The drones struck two residential buildings in Moscow directly, causing very little damage. Residents in the impacted regions were kept safe as a result of the emergency services' prompt response to the incident.

Evacuations and Damage:

Residents of the two damaged residential structures were evacuated from a number of gates in reaction to the drone attacks. However, Mayor Sobyanin reassured the populace that once the special services had finished their work, they would be free to go back to their residences. One of the drones damaged windows and the building's front when it impacted the upper levels of a residential building on Profsoyuznaya Street. The floor slab was damaged when the other drone struck a 24-story residential building on Atlasova Street in New Moscow (TiNAO).

Efforts to Neutralize the Threat:

A drone managed to go into an apartment on the 14th story of a building on Leninsky Prospekt, but it did not go off and do any damage. According to reports, the drone was carrying three bomb devices. A portion of the structure was evacuated out of caution, and demining procedures were started by explosives specialists. To protect the public, the authorities quickly blocked traffic in the impacted region.

Authorities' Reaction and Security Steps:

A number of drones were shot down as they reached Moscow, according to the governor of the Moscow area, Andrei Vorobyov. There were sounds in certain places as a result of the activation of air defence systems. More than 10 drones were reportedly shot down in the Moscow area, with the majority of them being targeted in the Istra, Krasnogorsk, and Odintsovo districts, according to Telegram channels. The attack featured a total of eight drones that resembled aeroplanes, according to the Russian Defence Ministry, all of which were effectively destroyed.

Features of the Drones:

Aleksey Rogozin, director of the autonomous nonprofit organisation "Centre for the Development of Transport Technologies," drew attention to the attack's drones' distinctive design. These previously unidentified drones that resembled aeroplanes were distinguished by their aerodynamic "duck" shape. They possessed an internal combustion engine as a power source, and their wingspan was at least 4 metres. Theoretically, the drones might go 400 to 1000 kilometres, costing between $30,000 and $200,000 apiece.

Inquiry and denial of involvement:

The Russian Federation's Investigative Committee opened an inquiry into the occurrences and the UAVs' collision with Moscow structures. A senior advisor to the president of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, denied that Ukraine had any direct role in the drone assault. He emphasised that Kyiv in particular was frequently the target of Ukraine's daily drone assaults. Podolyak voiced worry about the effect on Ukrainian citizens and speculated that some drones may have strayed from their intended objectives.

Conclusion:

The drone strike in Moscow on May 30 damaged a few buildings slightly but luckily did not result in any significant injuries. Residents' safety was guaranteed by emergency services' quick reaction and the drones' effective neutralisation. Authorities are looking into the event, but fears about the use of drones in such assaults are still present. The drones now in use, both in terms of their design and their capabilities, point to the necessity of strong defences against potential dangers.
