Donald John Trump is an American businessman, television personality, and politician who served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. He was born on June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York City, and is the fourth of five children of Fred Trump, a real estate developer, and Mary Trump, a housewife. He attended Fordham University for two years before transferring to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1968 with a degree in economics.

After graduation, Trump joined his father's real estate business and began working on various projects in New York City. In 1971, he officially became the president of the company, which was renamed the Trump Organization.

Under his leadership, the company expanded its real estate portfolio to include hotels, casinos, and golf courses. In the 1980s, Trump became a household name thanks to his high-profile real estate developments and his appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and other television programs.

In the 1990s, Trump's business empire began to suffer financial setbacks, and several of his companies filed for bankruptcy. Despite these setbacks, he was able to bounce back and continue to grow his business. In the early 2000s, he began to focus on building luxury towers and resorts, and by the end of the decade, he had become one of the most successful real estate developers in the world.

In 2015, Trump announced his candidacy for President of the United States as a Republican. He campaigned on a platform of "Make America Great Again," which included promises to build a wall along the southern border, to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and to renegotiate trade deals. He also promised to bring jobs back to the country, to lower taxes, and to reduce crime and illegal immigration.

Trump's campaign was marked by controversy and he faced strong opposition from many in the Republican Party. However, he was able to secure the nomination and went on to defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. He was inaugurated on January 20, 2017, becoming the oldest president in American history at the age of 70.

During his presidency, Trump pursued many of the policies he had campaigned on. He implemented a travel ban on several Muslim-majority countries, pulled out of the Paris Agreement on climate change, and renegotiated trade deals with Canada, Mexico, and China. He also signed a massive tax overhaul into law and appointed two conservative justices to the Supreme Court.

Trump's presidency was also marked by a number of controversies. He faced ongoing investigations into his campaign's alleged ties to Russia and was impeached by the House of Representatives in 2019 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Despite this, the Senate ultimately acquitted him.

In 2020, Trump announced he would run for re-election. However, he was defeated by the Democratic nominee, Joe Biden, and his presidency officially ended on January 20, 2021.

Trump's presidency has been widely considered as one of the most divisive and polarizing in American history. His speeches, policies and actions have been heavily criticized by many people as racist, sexist, xenophobic and authoritarian. He has been accused of undermining the democratic institutions and the rule of law, and promoting white nationalism and far-right ideologies.

Trump's impact on American politics and society will be a subject of debate for many years to come, but his tenure in the White House has certainly been a defining moment in recent American history.
