Don't Breathe is a 2016 horror-thriller directed by Fede Alvarez, who is known for his work on the "Evil Dead" reboot. The movie stars Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette, and Stephen Lang in the lead roles. The story revolves around a trio of burglars who break into a blind man's house, hoping to steal his fortune. However, they soon realize that the man is not as helpless as he seems, and the tables turn as they find themselves trapped in a house of horrors.

  • The movie opens with a brief introduction to the three main characters: Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex (Dylan Minnette), and Money (Daniel Zovatto). They are a group of small-time burglars who rob houses in their neighborhood to make ends meet. However, they soon discover that they need a big score to get out of their mundane lives. That's when they hear about a blind man (Stephen Lang) who lives alone in a deserted neighborhood and is rumored to have a large sum of money stashed away in his house. They decide to break into his house and steal the money, thinking that it will be an easy job.
  • The setup of the movie is simple yet effective, and it builds up the tension right from the beginning. The audience is immediately invested in the characters and their motivations, and it's easy to root for them despite their criminal activities. However, as the movie progresses, the tone shifts from a heist movie to a horror-thriller, and it's a transition that is executed flawlessly.
  • The blind man is introduced as a sympathetic character, who lost his daughter in a car accident and lives alone with his Rottweiler. However, as the movie progresses, we learn that he is not as helpless as he seems. He is a former marine who lost his eyesight in combat and has trained himself to use his other senses to navigate the world. He is also a man with a dark secret, and as the burglars discover his secret, the movie takes a twisted turn that will leave the audience on the edge of their seats.
  • The cinematography of the movie is outstanding, and the use of color and lighting is especially noteworthy. The movie takes place mostly in the dark, and the use of shadows and silhouettes adds to the sense of dread and claustrophobia. The camera work is also innovative, and the audience is put in the shoes of the burglars as they navigate the house, with the camera following their movements in a single take.
  • The performances of the actors are also impressive, with Stephen Lang stealing the show as the blind man. He is able to convey a range of emotions with just his voice and body language, and he is both terrifying and sympathetic at the same time. Jane Levy and Dylan Minnette also deliver solid performances as the protagonists, and their chemistry is believable and natural.
  • The movie does have its flaws, however. The plot twist in the third act feels forced and unnecessary, and it detracts from the overall tension and suspense of the movie. The ending is also unsatisfying and feels like a cop-out, leaving many questions unanswered and loose ends untied.

Finally, "Don't Breathe" is a highly effective horror-thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The movie is well-crafted, with outstanding cinematography and performances from the actors. While it has its flaws, the movie is still a must-watch for fans of the genre and a great example of how to execute a simple premise to perfection and Don't Breath 2 is also a good movie without disappointment.
