7 Things to Know About CUTCO and Vector Marketing
Even if you’ve never heard of Vector Marketing, you’re likely familiar with the CUTCO brand, known for its high-quality product and unique sales techniques. CUTCO is a US-based company that sells knives, and Vector Marketing is its marketing arm. The company offers the opportunity for individuals to sell its knives as full-time or part-time sales reps. However, there have been claims that the opportunities the company provides leave employees at a disadvantage—in other words, that they are scams. Some former employees alleged that there has been misleading information about compensation and earning potential. Others emphasize that selling for CUTCO is an excellent opportunity for people who know what they’re getting into and are prepared to do the work. As in all situations, there’s never just one side to a story. However, there are some facts about CUTCO and Vector that can help clear up misconceptions. (I have a friend who also use to work for Cutco, told me that they are SMAERS)....
1. What is CUTCO and Vector Marketing?
CUTCO Cutlery Corp is owned by Cutco Corporation, which was formerly known as Alcas Corporation. Headquartered in Olean, New York, this company makes and sells knives through direct sales and single-level marketing. The company has over $200 million in annual sales and has been in operation since 1949. Vector Marketing, founded in 1981, is the marketing division for CUTCO. Although it was initially a broader marketing agency, its sole purpose today is to sell CUTCO knives. Vector works with CUTCO sales representatives to get that done. Anyone can join the company as a sales representative, and you can simply use your zip code to start the application process via their website.
2. Vector Isn’t a Multi-level Marketing Company.
Vector is a single-level network marketing company, not a multi-level marketing company or a pyramid scheme. The company also belongs to the Direct Selling Association (DSA), meaning it must adhere to a strict Code of Ethics. Vector has over 250 independently run locations throughout Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United States. During peak sales seasons, they also open more than 300 temporary locations to meet the increasing demand. These times of year are also common moments of increased recruitment, as more and more people discuss their experiences selling for Vector with their families. Vector works with independent sales representatives who often share their experiences with others—that doesn’t make Vector Marketing a scam.
3. They Recruit Students.
Vector Marketing primarily recruits college students, and it’s one of the largest recruiters of students in North America every year. Students take advantage of this opportunity to develop their skills and build their resumes for other job opportunities. Representatives make their own schedules, which is great for students looking to earn some money who don’t want to disrupt their studies.
4. There’s No Cost to Join
You don’t need to pay any money to join Vector’s sales force, nor do you need any experience. You simply need drive and determination. Once you connect with one of the local Vector managers in your area, you can start your new career path. It’s important to note that there is no need to purchase a starter kit and no inventory requirements—Vector does not require you to buy their products from them for demonstrations. However, there are perks if you do purchase the kit. (This part is true at least, but their shit is so hella pricy as fuck.)
5. There Is an Interview Process
To join the program, you must complete an interview process with a local manager. Once the interview is scheduled, it’s recommended that you take the time to learn more about Vector Marketing and CUTCO. You can do this by researching employee experiences and checking out the company’s social media feeds, where you can connect with other representatives. (Which your gonna be on a call AKA be on ZOOM, then you'll have to do 10 days training by yourself witch get your family and friends to help you to practice with!)
6. Representatives Get Paid With or Without a Sale
All sales representatives receive guaranteed base pay, which is unusual for network marketing businesses. This means that though they make more off commission, representatives are paid whether or not a customer makes a purchase. For each demo they do for a “qualified” customer (someone who could viably purchase the product), they earn $15-$18. (It's actually $20 now) The amount is basically a safety net. Vector believes that customers don’t have to make purchases immediately for sales to be effective. Once they learn more about the products, they may buy at least one knife in the future. Reps also earn more through incentives when they make successful sales.
7. Vector Provides Professional Training
Once you have met with a local manager and been accepted, you’ll be ready for training. Vector’s training programs expose you to the ins and outs of working as a sales rep. The training takes about two to three days at your local office, and your manager will provide information on the upcoming training dates and locations. Due to the pandemic, there are also remote training options. The training is from experienced professionals and provides you with expert-level information about sales. During the process, you’ll start meeting with customers with the help of other experienced reps and receive your loaner set of knives to show during demos.

Is Cutco Cutlery A Scam? A Scheme That Cuts Like A Knife!
Someone probably told you about this amazing job with great pay and commission rates. They gave you instructions on how to apply, but something doesn't feel right when you read the document. On your instinct, you decide to back out. Good for you. First of all, I must Congratulate you for taking your time to do your own research before buying into any "seemingly good" product. So, rest assured that I'm not here to pitch or sell anything to you. Instead, I'm here to reveal what this MLM company is unusually offering to the masses. The big question we have been wondering! Is Cutco Cutlery a scam?
Summary: While the business opportunity is legitimate, Cutco Cutlery and Vector Marketing don't act like they're legitimate business entities. That's why I advise people to avoid their business opportunity on that ground alone. This company has been in trouble with the law in more ways than one, and it's just bad news for everyone (you'll see what I mean in this article). Any company that's bad in the eyes of the law is just worth avoiding.
Is Cutco Cutlery A Scam?
Together, Vector Marketing and Cutco Cutlery provide a legitimate business opportunity to the people. But with the way that they’ve been presenting themselves over the last few years, there are a lot of things that are just wrong with their opportunity. With that said, I would advise people to avoid their business opportunity a.k.a. their job hiring posters at all times. Let me tell you this. Any company that’s been in trouble with the law countless times for the same problem is just bad news. And get this, they’ve been reprimanded by two different states for the same problem! How stubborn of a company is that!? There are more legitimate (and better paying) opportunities out there if you just know where to look. All I am saying is look away from Cutco Cutlery. I'm not a fan of MLM, not because it's illegal or not profitable, but because of all the restrictions and the expensive costs involved.
