Many entrepreneurs have had to adjust to a new way of conducting business over the pandemic as companies shifted to fully remote operations. This left many entrepreneurs to transform their living space into their company’s headquarters, adjusting to a new work environment. However, we all know the negative impact that working from home can have on our work ethic, as more distractions abound and it can be hard to settle into a work mindset in the space where you usually relax and unwind. After all, there is a reason that couches were built for relaxation rather than for business meetings.

If you plan on working from home for the foreseeable future, it is imperative that you create a comfortable living environment that also enables you to focus and be productive.

Install Good Lighting

A dark workspace can make you feel less motivated to work and more tempted to turn on a movie as a distraction. We’ve all been there, especially on rainy days when we just want to work from our beds with a candle lit nearby. This cozy environment might feel okay for a bit, but soon into your workday, you may notice that you haven’t gotten as much work done as you had intended. Installing good lighting can be a quick fix to making you a bit more productive. You might choose to move your desk under a ceiling light or buy a new lamp from the store. Making these small changes can go a long way towards changing your productivity levels.

Fill Your Home With Plants

Working from home each day can begin to feel a little bland after a while. However, introducing some fun plants to your living space can help re-inspire you and give your workspace the life it requires. Plants have numerous benefits for one’s mental health, which is why it is essential to embrace the great outdoors as much as possible. Working in an environment surrounded by plants can help boost your creativity, give you healthier surroundings and make you more productive in your daily tasks. Additionally, caring for your plants and watching them grow can be quite enjoyable!

Invest in a Good Chair and Desk

Due to the amount of time you spend working, it is worth the investment to buy a comfortable chair and a spacious home desk that you can set up shop at. Spending hours sitting in an uncomfortable chair will only tempt you to move to the couch to get some work done. But leaving this more professional setting can lead to you losing your productive streak. Instead, invest in a comfortable chair with good back support. You may even consider a desk that can convert to a standing desk, in case you ever get tired of sitting! It’s helpful to set up a specific work area that you mentally associate with productivity so that you can enjoy the rest of your home outside of work hours as a relaxing space.

Decorate According to Your Tastes

One of the best parts of setting up a home office is that you have more control over the decor than you would in a company office. It’s hard to be excited about sitting in a dark, bland corner of your house for eight hours a day, so make your space inviting. Hang some art or photos, set up shelves and organizational tools, or consider painting the room! There are tons of resources online to give you inspiration for your home office, no matter what kind of space you are working with.

You won’t regret investing in a pleasant working environment for your living space. It will pay off when you see yourself being more productive, bringing in additional sales, creating motivation for your other employees and re-engaging your creative side.
