Career prospects after ITI

In the cut-throat competitive world of today, whether it is buying a cup of coffee or choosing career options, opportunities and choices have increased manifold. Instead of so many options, whomever you ask, you’ll get the same response regarding one’s career choice. Doctor or engineer. I must say, people, are rushing to become an engineer or doctor. It seems there’s no other choice available. Wait! let me ask you one question, is it practically possible for everyone to be a doctor or an engineer? Is there nothing else beyond these two fields? Possibly ‘NO’, not at all possible that everyone will label the titles of doctor and engineer in front of their names.

This is the scenario of present India. If you have an inclination and interest in professional programs and looking for early job settlement, easy employment, don't want to study a regular degree of 3 years then it is best for you to pursue vocational skills course which can be studied after 8th, 10th and 12th Standard. ITIs technical or non-technical course could be the best option for learning vocational skills. Established under the Directorate General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Skill and Development and Entrepreneurship and Union Government, ITIs or Industrial Training Institutes are centres that provide technical as well as non-technical courses to students.

If you are doing or done the ITI, you must have encountered one question, i.e., ‘What are the career prospects after ITI?’ Questions must be revolving in your mind that what next or what can I do after ITI? You might be thinking, What are the Career Options after ITI/ Diploma? What are the job opportunities after this? Or What are the best courses to do after ITI?

Career options post ITI

After doing an ITI diploma, if you are thinking that ITIs do not have a good career opportunity or the degree is lesser than any other degree is completely wrong. It is a fact that students who possess the right skill set will have a better chance of employment. Students who have completed ITI training in technical or engineering courses can go for several engineering diploma courses and short-term courses offered by the Advanced Training Institute (ATI) and are designed to polish the skills. After completing an ITI course, students can opt for AITT or All India Trade Test conducted by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT). It is conducted two times in a year in trades like Cutting & Sewing, Instrument Mechanic, Electronic Mechanic, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Foundryman, Electrician, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Fitter, Draughtsman (Civil/ Mechanical), Mechanic Diesel and Mechanic Refrigeration & Air- Conditioning trades.

Job opportunities after ITI

There is an abundance of job openings in both the public sector or government agencies and private enterprises. ITI degree holders can seek employment in Railways, Police, Universities, Agriculture sector and they can find employment in Indian Armed Forces i.e. IAF, Indian Navy, Indian Army, BSF, CRPF, and other paramilitary forces, etc. After doing the ITI you can also apply in the private sector, like textiles, construction, energy, agriculture and work on job roles such as air-conditioner mechanic, electrician, welder, etc. The next best and most beneficial option for ITI students is self-employment. Entrepreneurship is on the rise. One can set up their own garages, workshops, mills, transformers, winding shops, etc. In many countries, there is a shortage of blue-collar professionals who can fix things or provide related services. Such countries welcome ITI degree holders for profiles like fitter, welder, etc.

In the final analysis, I must say that in the present time of knowledge, skills and technological development, it is worth pursuing this course as it gives useful and important skills to the students.
