Aptitude assessments (also known as aptitude tests) are used by companies to assess a candidate's skills.

These tests are often given during the hiring process, and often, after the initial interview. The tests may vary, based on the position the candidate is applying for.

If the company uses the basic skills, then they may be administered in the company's offices, alternatively, the candidate may be sent to an assessment center.

If the candidate is required to go to an assessment center, then there may be additional assessments there as well. There are several different types of aptitude tests, each assessing different skills. Some candidates will get more mathematically focused tests, while others will get more logic-based tests.

It's a good practice to find out what tests there are and prepare for them. The more you practice, the better your chances are for securing that job position. Your job requirements play a heavy role in what sort of tests you may get.

If, for example, you've applied for an engineering job, you may well be required to pass mechanical aptitude tests and numerical reasoning tests. More tests may be required for other positions.

There are a few different aptitude tests. They differ from each other and focus on assessing different areas of expertise. Here's a list of some of the aptitude tests that you may encounter.

Numerical Reasoning Tests - Numerical reasoning tests are focused on testing the mathematical aptitude of the candidate. These tests will require the candidate to solve various mathematical problems.

Verbal Reasoning Tests - This test assesses the candidate's ability to understand what they read, in the form of written passages. The tests include written passages of various lengths that the candidate needs to read, and then answer questions related to the text. Mechanical Reasoning Tests -

Mechanical reasoning tests are very focused tests and are aimed at assessing a candidate's knowledge and understanding of specific subjects. Mechanical reasoning tests will include questions about topics like gears, electrical circuits, and other similar topics.

Logical Reasoning Tests - Logical reasoning skills have to do with assessing a candidate's ability to display a good sense of logic. These tests include diagrams in their problems and require the candidate to answer them in a logical way.

To conclude, there are a number of different aptitude tests. These tests differ in what they test, depending on what industry you are applying for.

Some companies may choose to assess you on several skills simultaneously, while others, will do with a simple assessment. Sometimes the company will do these tests on its premises, while at other times, you may be required to attend an assessment center.
