A campaign has been launched to help raise funds for the production of a couple of story books which aim to preserve the memories of NHS workers who have lost their lives during the Covid 19 pandemic. The money raised will go to help support NHS charities and the good work they do.

The Covid 19 virus was originally detected in bats in China. It then somehow jumped to another species of animal and then started to affect humans.

Animals can sometimes carry harmful germs that can spread to people and cause illness – these are known as zoonotic diseases or zoonoses. Zoonotic diseases are caused by harmful germs like viruses, bacterial, parasites, and fungi. These germs can cause many different types of illnesses in people and animals, ranging from mild to serious illness and even death. Animals can sometimes appear healthy even when they are carrying germs that can make people sick, depending on the zoonotic disease.

According to an unpublicised report from the Chinese government, the first case can be traced back to 17 November 2019; the person was a 55-year old citizen in the Hubei province. There were four men and five women reported to be infected in November, but none of them were "patient zero".

The virus then spread through Asia and Europe where it infected many people. Some had to be hospitalised and unfortunately some died.

The first confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK were on January 29, when two Chinese nationals fell ill at the Staycity Aparthotel in York. On February 6, a British businessman in Brighton was diagnosed with the virus after catching in in Singapore.

There are no vaccines nor specific antiviral treatments for COVID-19. Management involves the treatment of symptoms, supportive care, isolation, and experimental measures.

Progress is still being made in the search for a vaccine but there are still many which have to be tried and tested to find out which one works best to help fight the virus. Only then will we feel secure enough to be able to reduce social distancing measures and be able to socialise with each other more freely again.

The idea to produce these books came to the author Gillian Seale after UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock made a comment following one of his Cobra Briefings. He stated that they were trying to identify an appropriate way to remember and celebrate these individuals. This really struck a chord with Gillian as this is exactly what her work at Tailored Yarn was all about. She feels that creating a book in honour of NHS Front line Workers' service, is a great way to celebrate their lives and a project that the people of the UK could all contribute to in order to show their appreciation.

These books will preserve memories by capturing the NHS staff names, the depth of their service and compassion, the voices of the people they saved, and their NHS story in order to commemorate their lives, and use their names to inspire the children of the future.

By helping this campaign to succeed, all supporters will be rewarded in the form of hand made support to local crafters with donations going to NHS Charities Together. You can check out all the details on the crowdfunding page.
