Due to the Corona crisis, many small businesses had to close their doors temporarily. As the stores affected by the crisis are opening up again, we can give back to the local community by supporting the small businesses that improve our lives. These businesses are necessary to benefit from the many benefits that they provide. Although they are often considered the underdog compared to global corporations and extensive supply chains, supporting local businesses can make a huge difference in our lives. Here's why we must support small businesses:

Helping Local Economies

By supporting small businesses and shopping locally, you can help the local community by contributing to the development of its economy. For most Americans, it is an obligation to go to large chain stores to find the best deals. However, there are several reasons why shopping locally benefits your wallet and the community.

The government can use the revenue to reinvest in the community through the sale taxes that local businesses must pay. Unfortunately, big box retailers are often granted tax breaks by local governments, which prevent local businesses from being able to operate. By investing in a large chain store elsewhere, the communities will benefit less.

More Employment Opportunities

The Small Business Administration noted that small businesses could create 1.8 million new jobs in the US in 2019. They are the backbone of the country's economy and employ over half of its private workforce. These businesses can boost economic growth by providing employment opportunities to people not interested in working for big box retailers.

Supporting the Community

Besides providing employment opportunities, local businesses also help the community by supporting other businesses. By purchasing materials or supplies from their local peers, they can keep more money they spend in the community. Being able to support local causes and charities is very important to the success of small businesses. It's clear that they benefit from the strong community, and the owners are more likely to be involved in the community.

Create a Local Identity

One of the most important factors that people should consider when it comes to shopping locally is the presence of entrepreneurs who are passionate about their community. They can create a positive environment for their customers and attract visitors by making their establishments a part of the community.

Small businesses are known to be more successful than large corporations in sponsoring sports events. They also support various charitable organizations and are eager to help those in need within their local community.

Through their entrepreneurship, small business owners can provide the youth with valuable skills needed for the town's development.

Helping the Environment

Local shops employ local workers, so they don't have to rely on public transportation to get to their jobs. Also, they're close to their homes, making them more accessible to everyone. In addition, they tend to avoid building new structures, which can lower their infrastructure impact. Because of their tendency to work with other businesses in town, the distribution and transportation of goods can have minimal negative effects on the environment. This is different from what big chains can do.
