Cloud computing is all about storing, transferring and using data and software projects over the web. It eradicates the need for storing data on a physical drive. The word ‘cloud’ could be understood as a metaphor for internet. It is a nonphysical location, where files are stored. Therefore, it is creating a lot of buzz in the industry. If a company adopts a cloud, then they won’t have to worry about storing the data and using it on a physical drive, rather, they can store and use it via a remote location on the net. Cloud computing is a superb new technology which has tons of benefits. It makes the complete process of managing data and programs easy and smooth by allowing us to save our files in the cyberspace. Though there are a lot of businesses that have already adopted cloud, as needless to say, it is turning out to be quite beneficial for them. But, on the other hand, there are a few of the corporates or institutes or people who are still a little hesitant to adopt cloud, we will talk about the prominent reasons in this article.

Why are people interested in adopting the cloud?

There are tons of reasons that make cloud computing a hit in the industry. One of the most prominent of all the reasons is the ease of use. If the data is stored on the cloud, then it is easy to access. The usability of the cloud gives it a point over any hardware used for storage of the data. Also, the transfer of the data or the files becomes very easy to and from the cloud. The bandwidth of the storage can be managed easily if the storage is in a cloud. You would not have to email files to any individual, rather, you can just upload them on the cloud. Therefore, you will be able to add even heavy files to the cloud. The ease of accessibility makes cloud the favorite. People can access it from anywhere.

Listed below are a few of the reasons that bother businesses when it comes to adopting cloud:

  • Reliance on the network

The only major drawback of cloud has been its dependency on the network or internet. This is one of the most worrisome reasons that may have stopped the businesses from adopting cloud. As cloud is dependent on the network connectivity, therefore, the speed of the network impacts the flow and speed of the business operations. Thus, there is no doubt about the fact that the companies need to have a fast and dependable internet connection if they want to make the most of the cloud. Also, the bandwidth of the internet has to be very high. Though, nowadays, as most of the companies are working online, therefore, fast internet connection is no longer a problem for them. It is just that they have to choose the right network provider to ensure that they can real maximum benefits.

  • Not Enough Control

One of the most talked-about cons of cloud computing is the company’s loss of complete control. The company is reliant on the cloud computing service provider as well as the internet provider. Thus, for the security of the data, the businesses may have to rely on the network provider and internet provider as well. It is the responsibility of both the business as well as the cloud service provider to maintain and manage the security of the data. However, it still depends on the server model that the company is using, therefore, at the end of the day, businesses might have very little control over the security of the data. Though in some cases, the businesses would have total control over the security of company’s information, it depends on the infrastructure and the cloud that you use.

  • Choosing the right service provider

Choosing the best cloud service provider is not a problem, but it is a little cumbersome process. The companies have to gather a list of providers and then compare their services and pricing to select the best ones. Also, it is of utmost importance for businesses to select the most reliable service provider. Thus, sometimes, the companies might be hesitant to adopt cloud, as they are not sure which service provider to select.

Cloud computing is rising at a great pace and there is no doubt about the fact that in the future, cloud computing will be preferred more and more. Therefore, the business will have to be ready to adopt cloud and reap benefits of the cloud. Though security of the company’s data is the top priority of the businesses, therefore, they have to make the right decision. Also, they need to have a solid internet connection to ensure that the cloud is used effectively.
