Considering the nature of development we have gone through today, you might think of reading magazines as a gone idea. And why not? The first magazine ever published was in 1663, a long long way back, when there were no engines to power our pace, rarely any cities existed, and nothing like high-rises, not even a camera. The content of the magazine sold then hovered around literature, theology, and philosophy. The so-called ‘Erbauliche Monaths-Unterredungen’ or ‘Edifying Monthly Discussions’ was an initiative taken by Johann Rist (theologian and poet of Hamburg). But as we live in the digital age, why in the world should we pick up a magazine? Can’t we simply open up a video and get it all?

While it's true that the internet has changed the way we consume media, I believe that magazines are still a valuable and relevant source of information and entertainment. Let’s see why.

Provide a passage to a tangible experience

There's something special about holding a physical magazine in your hands. The very flipping through the pages and experiencing the layout and design, something that digital media simply can't replicate, is something to not miss.

Now, you can simply argue – “Can’t holding a phone or a tab provides us with a tangible experience too?” Well, it surely can, but the experience is not profound when compared to a magazine. The glossy pages, the scent of the ink, and the weight of the magazine in your hands are something that readers wander pole to pole for. It all contribute to a unique reading experience that can't be matched by a computer screen. Also, the experience is immersive and focused, unlike the digital devices soaked in distractions.

Serve a curated experience

Humans tend to love getting valued; and what better way to make someone feel valued than to offer a curated experience? With articles and features that have been carefully selected and edited by a team of professionals, magazines are something to not miss. This means that you can trust that the content you're reading is accurate, high-quality, and relevant to your interests.

A deep dive toward the land of treasures

In the digital age, when we have an abundance of knowledge but a lack of focus, magazines come as a refuge. While the internet can provide a quick fix of news and information, magazines offer in-depth coverage of a particular topic or theme. Be it their feature-length articles or profound photo essays, magazines provide a level of depth and insight that can be difficult to find online. It is the difference between watching a feature film v/s scrolling through Instagram shorts. You just cannot cherish the deep experience.

An escape from the digital noise

Where merely two decades ago we used to crave entertainment, communication, and titbits of news, today, we look for an escape from these all. Today, we're constantly connected to our devices. The ceaseless notifications keep us leashed to our devices like a pet that visits you the very moment you call their name. Magazines offer a refreshing break from this very digital world. When you pick it up, you have nothing but a beautifully curated piece of no-less-some-art in your hand. And this is the case for both books & magazine. A book also pulls you into an immersive experience and lets you live another life.

So, do you still think that magazines are not relevant today? Let me tell you, most celebrities still pick up magazines today to get their doze of knowledge. Now, if you feel like reading one, check out Shopify alternative free where you can get these at wonderful prices.
