An OS created in India
created by JandK Operations Limited, an IIT Madras spinoff.
Bharat Operating System Solutions, often known as BOSS, was developed in 2007 by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), an agency of the Government of India (GOI) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
BharOS, an operating system built on the Linux kernel and created by JandK Operations Limited, is comparable to Android. It does not, however, come with any pre-installed apps like Android does, and users can select the apps they want to download. According to media reports, professor V Kamakoti, Director-IIT Madras, stated at a press conference that "BharOS Service is a Mobile Operating System built on a foundation of trust, with a focus on providing users more freedom, control, and flexibility to choose and use only the apps that fit their needs." He continued, "This ground-breaking solution has the potential to completely change how users perceive security and privacy on their mobile devices.
It can be loaded on commercially available handsets and comes with security mechanisms including the root of trust and the chain of trust, according to a report. The Native Over The Air upgrades are also supported. It denotes that BharOS is always running on the most recent version of the device. It is currently accessible to businesses with privacy and security needs. According to a media report, Kamakoti stated that IIT Madras "looks forward to working together with many more private enterprises, government organisations, strategic agencies, and telecom service providers to boost the usage and implementation of BharOS."
Pradhan praised the development and stated that "the country's poor people will be the principal benefactors of a strong, native, stable, and self-reliant digital infrastructure.BharOS is a successful step towards data privacy.
The Made in India OS is not the first:
Bharat Operating System Solutions, often known as BOSS, was developed in 2007 by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), an agency of the Government of India (GOI) under the Ministry of Electronics and IT. It was promoted as a rival to Microsoft's Windows operating system at the time. This Made in India BOSS was another Linux-based operating system.
However, this operating system is hardly known in modern times. According to a media source, BOSS was "dying a slow death" as a result of a lack of funding and government backing. The research listed the software's principal problems as well, including infrequent updates, a lack of interaction with hardware vendors, and problems with customer support.Hence, it will be crucial and interesting to see how developments at BharOS pan out.
The dominant companies:
Here, it's also essential to review the most popular operating systems.Google's Android has the biggest market share worldwide. It is a very well-liked open-source operating system among smartphone manufacturers. It is well-liked by consumers because to the ease of use and accessibility of a huge number of apps. In this case, affordability is also important. Android is not only available for smartphones; it can also be found on tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and televisions.
For laptops and desktops, Windows is the most popular operating system. It is very well-liked by consumers because of how simple it is to use, even for those who aren't very tech savvy, how affordable it is, how secure it is, how functional it is, and how accessible it is. As you may have noticed, the OS is frequently pre-installed on computers.
Apple's iOS, which is compatible with iPhones and iPads, follows. It has a great user interface, a variety of programmes, and security that make users incredibly happy. It also produces less heat than Android does. iOS is a close-source OS, in contrast to Android, which means Apple has total control over it. The fact that it is more expensive than Android may be a drawback.
Apple offers macOS for its Macs or Macintosh computers. Its strengths are a great user experience, security, and usability, just like iOS. Cost, though, can once more be perceived as a drawback. Ubuntu, Solaris, and Linux are some other frequently used operating systems.\
