At least seven people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at a Walmart supermarket in Chesapeake, Virginia, US. It is believed that the store manager started firing indiscriminately. He later shot himself as well, resulting in his death. The City of Chesapeake confirmed the incident on Twitter. Many others have also been injured. It is not known why the attacker fired.

Police said the incident happened at 22:12 local time. An eyewitness wearing Walmart uniform has told about the incident through a video. He said, 'He had come out of the staff room. Then a manager came inside and started firing. We have lost some of our comrades in this incident. Police spokesman Leo Kosinski said the shooting occurred inside the store and that the assailant acted alone. "This incident is unfortunate and we are working closely with law enforcement agencies," Walmart said in a statement.

Treatment of five people

Centara Norfolk General Hospital in Chesapeake said it had treated five people. According to WAVY-TV, a woman reported that her brother, who had gone to work just 10 minutes earlier, was also shot. He told that his brother messaged and said that he is fine. A woman named Joetta Jeffrey told CNN that her mother, who was still at the mall when the attack happened, sent a text message.
