Agriculture is the most crucial sector for the last thousand years in human life. It provides food security to millions of people around the world. Yet, while farming may seem like a simple process, many farmers still find themselves spending more time within their fields rather than with their families at home.

Fortunately, modern technology makes it possible for farmers to spend less time on the farm and more time with the people they love. If we analyze the last few years, we will see that advancement of technology has reformed the agriculture sector.

Farmers now have access to advanced technologies that help them meet our world's ever-increasing population; for example, high tech tractors are available in the market, such as Powertrac Euro 60, which ensures effective and efficient performance on the field. The question is why do we need these technologies? The answer is self-evident that if we want to cope with the increasing demand for food worldwide, we need to get help from modern technologies.

MEANING OF FARM AUTOMATION

Farm automation, often associated with "smart farming", refers to the technology that makes farms more efficient and automates the livestock cycle. Several companies are working on robotics innovation to develop drones, autonomous tractors, robotic harvesters, automatic watering, and seeding robots. These technologies are new; the industry has seen an increasing number of traditional agriculture companies adopt farm automation into their processes. Agricultural automation is the core technology for computer-aided agrarian production management and implementation. Integration of equipment, infotronics, and precision farming technologies creates viable solutions for challenges facing the human race's food, fibre, feed, and fuel needs now and into the future.

MODERN FARM MACHINERIES

Modern farm machineries refer to highly advanced machines used in agriculture that ease the work on the field, saving time and energy and providing maximum productivity. Many companies are working on their new models with the increasing employment of autonomous features. For instance, modern tractors like Powertrac euro 50 have fully automated line keeping and depth adjustment functions. Let's discuss in detail some adequate modern farm machineries.

DRONES - Drones are playing a vital role in innovative agricultural changes. It can be used for field inspection without going into the field, by which a farmer can save time and energy. High-quality videos and photos can be taken with the help of drones.

AUTOMATED EQUIPMENTS - Automated equipment are beneficial in repeated agriculture labour, for example, seeding, watering, harvesting etc. many companies are providing modern automated equipment in tractors, too, such as Powertrac Euro 439.

BENEFITS OF FARM AUTOMATION

  • INCREASE LABOUR EFFICIENCY - If we analyze the cost of agriculture, we will find that approx. 50 per cent of agriculture cost is the cost of labour. Farm automation helps reduce that cost up to 50 per cent, and it also helps increase labour efficiency.
  • BENEFITS TO PRODUCER AS WELL AS CONSUMER - In today's world, where the demand for organic food is increasing day by day with the help of farm automation, farmers can easily make sure to provide their products fresh and on time which results in consumers' satisfaction and increases in farmer's profit.
  • REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION - Farm automation can help in repeated labour works, saving time, which is very important in agriculture. Less the time it will take, the less amount of pesticides or fertilizers will be used, due to which there will be a reduction in harmful environmental pollution.
  • MAJOR CHALLENGES FOR FARM AUTOMATION

Farm automation provides many benefits, as discussed above, but there are some challenges also.

    • High cost - Modern technologies are costly, which is a significant disadvantage. One must invest a lot in these highly advanced technologies. In countries like India, where most farmers are poor, the expensiveness of technologies is a serious concern.
    • Lack of knowledge - Modern technologies need a high understanding of functioning. The majority of farmers are illiterate, so it becomes challenging for them to understand the functioning of particular modern technology.
    • Increases the prices of commodities - As we know, leading modern technologies are expensive due to which farmers have to raise the price of their things to cover up the cost. A price increase will result in a decrease in demand which results in losses.
