In the event of a flight delay, passengers can now exit through the airport departure gates.

According to BCAS Director General Zulfiquar Hasan, the instructions went into effect on March 30 and were sent to airport operators and airlines.

New Delhi: The aviation security watchdog BCAS has released new guidelines that permit passengers to leave an aircraft via an airport departure gate in the event that the flight is delayed significantly after boarding.

The most recent order from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) was issued in the midst of an increase in traffic jams and delayed flights, which leaves passengers stranded in airplanes for extended periods of time.

According to BCAS Director General Zulfiquar Hasan, the instructions went into effect on March 30 and were sent to airport operators and airlines.

According to him, the restrictions would ensure that passengers face "less harassment" and won't have to spend long hours sitting aboard an airplane after boarding.

Passengers will be allowed to disembark via the relevant airport's departure gate in the event of protracted aircraft delays and other emergencies.

Hasan stated, "Airport operators have to make arrangements for the infrastructure, including for screening, for implementing the guidelines," adding that the airlines and relevant security agencies will decide whether to deny passengers.

Speaking off-camera, he was commemorating the 38th Raising Day of the BCAS.

Regarding the incident of passengers eating on the airport tarmac, BCAS fined IndiGo and Mumbai airport operator MIAL ₹ 1.80 crore on January 17.

IndiGo faces a fine of ₹ 1.20 crore, and MIAL faces a fine of ₹ 60 lakh.

After a lengthy delay, a large number of passengers from an IndiGo aircraft at the Mumbai airport hurried out, sat on the tarmac, and some were even spotted eating there when their diverted Goa-Delhi flight landed on January 14.

There is an increase in domestic air travel, with about 3,500 flights every day.

Hasan has already declared that airport congestion is "unwelcome" and that the organization has produced the best guidelines and resources to address the problem.

As part of its efforts to guarantee that travelers have a better experience at airports, the aviation security watchdog will also install smart security lanes.

He states that the airport in Bangalore is probably going to get full-body scanners this month. These scanners will eventually be installed at airports handling more than 5 million passengers annually.

In response to increased air travel, BCAS and other authorities have implemented a number of measures to alleviate airport congestion.

Hasan emphasized that "keeping pace with growth is a challenge" while acknowledging that the efforts have resulted in noticeable changes.

In February, the BCAS ordered seven scheduled airlines, among other things, to make sure that baggage arrived at airports promptly following airplane landings. The directive was issued in response to complaints from customers regarding delays in receiving their luggage following airline arrival.

What is altered in accordance with the new flight passenger rule?

The recommendations were sent to airport operators and airlines on March 30, according to BCAS Director General Zulfiquar Hasan. Now that they are in place, these regulations will help to guarantee "less harassment" for travelers. He stated, "Airport operators have to make arrangements for the infrastructure, including for screening, for implementing the guidelines." Passengers would not have to spend extended periods of time sitting inside an aircraft after boarding the plane.

What is the purpose of the new rule?

There have been numerous reports of aircraft delays, and on January 17, BCAS fined IndiGo and MIAL ₹1.80 crore for allowing customers to eat on the airport tarmac. When an IndiGo plane landed in Mumbai, a large number of people hurried out and sat on the tarmac. On January 14, following a protracted delay, their diverted Goa-Delhi flight landed and they were spotted eating there.
