It is everyone’s dream to have a nice job. A nice job often means good salaries and a comfortable life. Some people equate a nice job with the amount of payment: the higher salary you receive, the better job you have acquired. However, I think that a job that gives you a chance to learn new skills may be more important than a job that gives you money.

Of course, many people agree that money is very important in our lives and people should be proud of themselves if they landed a high paying job. As the expression goes, “money makes the world go round.” It is essential in life. Money is like the energy; it keeps the whole world going because we need money to buy, sell, pay bills, and provide for the family. Currently, money is the controlling factor. Everything and everyone works for money. Parents need money to give their children the best education and healthcare. Furthermore, money is necessary to put food on the table and for paying bills, because without money you can lose your house and vehicles. Various people are struggling today since the economy has become dreadful. Gas prices have gone up, insurance is expensive, and people are becoming homeless. Therefore, money is important to survive in this world.

Although money may make the world go round, a job that gives you a chance to learn new skills could be more vital than money. New job skills make you more competent, competitive, make you proud of yourself, and also benefit you in finding a high paying job. For instance, if somebody has work experience and is looking for a job, the chances of them getting hired is higher because of the skills the individual has. Having new skills can show the employer that you are motivated and you will be seen more positively by employers. New job skills can help build confidence and it will look good on resumes, recommendation letters, and job applications will be greatly stronger. For example, I for one didn’t have job experience until now; as a work-study student it has built my confidence, improved my social skills and I’m knowledgeable in assisting customers. These new job skills that I have gained from this job may help me in the future when applying for another job.

I plan to become a substitute as a temporary job after I spend some time as a work-study student. I want to be able to learn new skills as a substitute to get a feel of what it’s like to be in a classroom setting. Substituting can help me gain experience and look better on my resume when applying to be a teacher in the future. Additionally, I will volunteer in school activities whether it is working in the front office and working with students in the classroom. After gaining enough new skills in the teaching field I want to become an elementary teacher. Furthermore, these skills that I will gain would make my employers see me positively and motivated to do the job.

In conclusion, money may be the controlling factor in life when it comes to providing for the family, paying for education, and bills. You cannot survive in the world without money because it’s like the energy; it’s what keeps the world going. As the saying goes, “money doesn’t bring happiness.” Would you truly be happy with not a single dime in your pocket? Since money plays a big role, today you need at least a bit of money to make you happy. While money may be essential in life, new skills are important compared to money. New job skills benefit you in finding a high paying job; it makes you more competitive and competent. Not only that, but it looks good on resumes as you become knowledgeable on assisting people. The employers will view you as more valuable and be appreciative of the number of skills you know. Employers may send a good recommendation letter to another job you want to get hired in. More new job skills the better, and more doors will open to getting hired in a high paying job. Therefore, new job skills far surpass the controlling factor of money.
