Do you feel stuck? Have you been wanting to move somewhere more desirable, but your job has you anchored to one location? Maybe your spouse’s career requires your family to relocate regularly; it’s not practical to take a local job that you’ll just have to quit when you move again. In the age of the internet, you have myriad possibilities to consider in countless career fields. It’s beneficial to the applicant and employer, offering both individuals national — sometimes even international — opportunities and way more prospects. Get exactly what you want instead of settling for what’s local. If you’re ready for a change, consider these careers that can migrate with you wherever you go:

Graphic Designer

If you’re creative, professional design or illustration may be for you. Companies want artistic individuals to create marketing materials such as infographics, visuals and diagrams for their clients. People with conversion optimization skills are in particularly high demand by companies needing the design of email newsletters or landing pages.

Data Entry Clerk

If you’re a fast and accurate typer, motivated and efficient, data entry could be the work for you. You could choose from a variety of types of companies to work as an employee, or even freelance for more than one.

SEO Specialist

As a search engine optimization (SEO) specialist, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to lift a website to the top of search engine results. Search engines now prioritize quality content by placing the most engaging and relevant at the top of the search results. It may take some time and work to gain all the knowledge that you need to be an expert in this field, but SEO jobs tend to pay people very well who have a knack for SEO.

Transcriptionist

Transcription involves putting recorded speech into text form. As a transcriptionist, you could specialize in one area (e.g., legal or medical) or encounter a variety of different subjects and types of transcriptions (e.g., meetings, podcasts, lectures and interviews). Along the same lines, court reporters transcribe speech in real-time during legal proceedings such as trials and depositions. There is some demand for court reporters Sacramento who work from home or perform a mix of on- and off-site work. Depending on the state and/or employer, court reporters may have to get a license or certification. Transcriptionists of all kinds must have an excellent typing speed, a very solid understanding of grammar and spelling, as well as great attention to detail. Many of these companies hire freelance workers to work remotely.

Administrative Assistant

A remote administrative assistant (or virtual assistant) position is great for someone who has excellent computer and office software skills (e.g., Microsoft Office), fast typing speed, multitasking abilities, motivation and dependability. Depending on the business and number of employees, you could be managing phone calls and emails, performing data entry, organizing paperwork and/or setting appointments.

Customer Service Representative

These days, customer service comes in various forms: not only phone lines but also live chat and email. It’s not always necessary for customer service employees to work on-site, so they hire remote workers. These businesses usually require you to be familiar with their products and services, and to be patient and friendly dealing with customers in all situations. You may be working as an employee of the company or a freelancer.

Writer or Editor

Writers have plenty of opportunities for a variety of different types of jobs (e.g., creative, technical and scientific). You may enjoy being a ghostwriter, copywriter, or you might be more suited for writing grants, marketing copy or press releases. Editors are also in high demand. If you have a good knowledge of grammar and have good writing skills, give writing or editing a try.

Here in the 2020s, as long as there’s internet accessibility, virtually anyone should be able to find a remote job. Begin searching and applying for jobs today that will give you the freedom to work when and where you want.
