Living and working your whole life in the same grey cubicle somewhere with terrible weather isn't for everyone. Thankfully, digital nomadism is becoming more than a fashion trend—it is becoming a part of our daily life.

Going to work somewhere else for a year or two can be a life-changing experience. Is there a more amazing way to discover new things, people, and places while furthering your professional life? You’ll meet new people, maybe fall in love, and even pick up a new language.

United States of America

This is almost obvious—the US remains to be one of the best countries to work and live abroad in for any non-American, and it has a plethora of working opportunities for interested parties. If you're highly skilled and your English has no flaws, there are various jobs for foreigners in the US technological and healthcare sector.

The land of opportunity is currently looking for lab technicians, nurses, computer programmers, software developers, and web designers. If you're thinking about going there as a relatively unskilled worker and looking for short-term jobs, you can still find employment opportunities in ski towns, resorts, national parks, and other tourist locations. There is ample opportunity in retail also, particularly for those who are still in school.

New Zealand

Just like in Australia, New Zealand is one of the most popular bucket-list destinations among digital nomads. It’s clean, rugged, and beautiful, while the locals are famous as the friendliest in the world. For these reasons, the nation again ranks in some surveys at the number two spot.

Although, if you want to migrate to New Zealand or Australia, you need to pass an English test as a part of your visa application. The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) is the industry leader for computer-based English language testing. Websites like Englishwise offers PTE courses that are delivered and scored entirely by a computer, using Pearson’s automated scoring process.

Many professionals consider improving their overall quality of life a crucial element of their decision on where to travel. Those that do move to New Zealand obtain a much better quality of life, and more than half claim the nation’s myriad of adventure opportunities encouraged them to lead a more active life.

Spain

Since the competition for a highly profitable job in Spain is brutal, you may need to brush up on your language skills. If you desire to work in this country, which continuously tops the lists of best places to work overseas, fluency in Spanish will have numerous benefits for competing against many highly qualified Spanish graduates.

Although, for the linguistically challenged, short-term positions such as teaching English language, or working in tourism or childcare won’t generally require strong Spanish-speaking skills. There are also many work-abroad programs in this country helping foreigners obtain temporary employment that enables them to work here for up to one or two years.

Singapore

From the latest surveys, Singapore remains to be in the top slots. It scored great marks in three of the most important categories—fifth for families, third when it comes to economy, and sixth for personal experience. When it comes to reported earnings, they remain high among those surveyed.

However, as with many Asian nations, working more than five days per week is usual, which often produces a negative work-life balance. Social integration can be an issue for foreign travelers. Here, Singapore also ranks high with more than 70% noting they felt “settled-in” in less than a year, and a full 95% confirming that locals have been an essential part of their social life.

Moving abroad to live and work in a new place isn't an issue anymore. The only thing you need is your will and desire to do. Try living like a digital nomad. You may be surprised how much you will enjoy it.
