3 Great Writing Contests on Vocal

Similar to my experience on Medium, my recent venture into Vocal Media has been a pleasant surprise. This platform has proven to be quite supportive for content creators. Vocal Media consistently provides engaging challenges to writers. They are pretty generous in their rewards and recognition.

I enjoy writing challenges on Medium, but the ones on Medium have no monetary value. It is for gaining visibility and building our audience. Vocal offers prizes to winners, usually between $500 and $1000.

Writing challenges inspire me as a writer and reader. I read the stories of the winners and loved them very much. Therefore, as a writer, reader, and editor, I want to create awareness of Vocal Media contests.

Whether you wish to showcase your nation’s achievements, challenges, or a diverse range of voices, let your creativity soar as you add to the storied tradition of what could become the next Great [Insert Your Country] Novel.

Embrace the essence of inclusiveness and craft a vibrant depiction of your country’s journey, past, present, and aspirations to contribute to a literary heritage that honors the shared human experience.

For your submission to qualify, it must be between 2,000–5,000 words.

Vocal pays $1000 to the winner. Second place will get $500, and 10 Runners-Up will receive $50.

You must rush for this one as it has only three days left. Submissions close on Sep 08, 2023, 1:59 PM AEST.

2 — Writers: Write about the first piece you ever wrote.

This is my favorite one, as I joined this challenge by sending one of my stories and blog posts close to my heart.

To celebrate the launch of the Writers community, writers will take a nostalgic trip down memory lane by revisiting the first piece of writing that holds a special place in our hearts.

It is not about the obligatory school assignments but that genuine poem, early story, heartfelt journal entry, or our very first work on Vocal.

You may deeply dive into its essence, the emotions it stirs within you, and the message it conveys. Now, compare it to your present style and perspective. How have you evolved as a writer?

Have your themes, voice, or viewpoints changed over the years? Share this personal journey of growth and rediscovery with us as we celebrate the ever-evolving craft of storytelling together.

For your submission to qualify, it must be between 300–3,000 words.

The grand prize winner will get $500, second place $250, and 10 runners-up $25. As of today, you have ten days to submit your stories. Submissions close on Sep 15, 2023, at 1:59 PM AEST.

3 — Chapters: Write a chapter from the middle of your memoir.

You may sink into the reservoirs of your memory in honor of the launch of the Chapters community.

Rather than commencing from the very beginning, direct your attention to a pivotal moment, a turning point, or a profoundly meaningful experience that ideally holds a central place in the narrative of your life.

This chapter doesn’t necessarily have to be the climax (since your story is an ongoing masterpiece), but it should encapsulate the essence of your journey, reverberating with genuine emotions, profound insights, and unadulterated authenticity.

For your submission to qualify, it must be between 600–5,000 words. You will submit your story to the Chapters community. Choosing a community is the final step in the submission process.

The grand prize winner will get $500, second place $250, and 10 runners-up $25. As of today, you have 17 days to submit your stories. Submissions close on Sep 22, 2023, at 1:59 PM AEST.
