Well, adulthood is here and here to stay. I don't know about all of you, but I was dreading graduation. Though we all feel accomplished, for some there is a great deal on uncertainty. This is a great time to grow and start a new chapter.

The job search is undoubtedly a full-time job. Life is so different than when all you had to worry about was an exam, a paper, or when you will be able to go out next. You all of a sudden have a rush of responsibilities. It is honestly extremely frustrating and discouraging. But don't worry, there are tons of people going through the same thing. This time doesn't have to be so bad, there's a lot you can do while you search.

Here are some ways to relieve your stress/ keep yourself occupied:

1. Find a hobby.

One that doesn't cost a lot of money and will take up some time. Crafting, reading, writing, or anything else you find fun.

2. Go on small inexpensive trips.

We all wish we could travel after graduation, but sometimes a grand trip is not in financial reach. But a hike in a pretty place or exploring a museum are good ways to spend your time.

3. Learn new skills.

Now is a great time to learn new things, even things that can boost your resume. Learn that instrument you always wanted to learn, master Photoshop, or learn a new language.

4. Volunteer.

Volunteering for organizations can help build your resume, take up time, and leave you feeling good. Volunteering can also give you a feel of what you might want to pursue if you are unsure.

5. Exercise.

Being at home can easily make you feel lazy. Exercising can make you feel energized. Whether it’s going to the gym, taking a walk around the block, or dancing around your house, exercising will make you feel uplifted and motivated.

6. Network.

Find out about local job fairs, talk to friends or relatives. This will give you social interaction while helping you feel productive in your search. A really cool app to do this is Shapr, it’s like tinder but less creepy and strictly for networking.

7. Find small ways to make money.

Drive uber, babysit, or sell your old stuff for some extra cash. This is also great if you don’t want to get into the 9-5 grind right away.

8. Cook at home.

Cooking can be therapeutic and save you money. You are learning a new skill while eating some yummy food. Go on youtube or google and find cool recipes. This will save you from eating out and free up money to do other things.

9. Spend time with family.

One thing about being home is being able to spend time with family. Talk to them, watch a movie, they are cooler than you think. If you aren’t home, take the time to talk to your family and friends through facetime when you both are free.

10. Take some personal time.

This is a stressful transition time so take care of your mental health. Meditation, drawing, whatever it is that helps you relieve stress. Do it! It will make your time in the job search 10 times easier.

Some Tips

Remember everything takes time, though you may feel like you have submitted 1000 applications and gone on a bunch of interviews, you will still get through it. Don’t be afraid to take a chance on any opportunity that comes up. Always find your passion and work from there. Look at small opportunities at as stepping stones towards your goal.
