Whether you're just starting, you have written a book and got it published, or maybe you're experiencing "writers" block. Writing prompts are a great way to get your mind thinking and your imagination rolling so that you can create that story you're so desperately craving to give your fans. They help with coming up with fresh ideas and with coming out of your writing comfort zone a bit as well. Below, I have listed ten creative writing prompts, and they have helped me think of stories to help get me started on my book! I hope these will help get that author's mind going for you as well!

1. Write a post-apocalyptic romance.

(Try this idea out with zombies, robots, aliens, a pandemic, extreme weather conditions, and nuclear fallouts.)

2. 10 cm of snow had fallen overnight, just as the weatherman predicted. The only thing is that the snow isn't white...

(You can get creative with this one because you can choose what color you want that snow to be and develop a story that isn't like the typical cliche type apocalyptic weather stories.)

3. You can buy a pill that lets you decide what you will dream about while you sleep.

(Wouldn't it be so cool to pick what you wanted to dream? With this writing prompt, you can choose anything and think about the kind of dreams you would love to dream. Maybe you like it when you dream about food?)

4. You find a polaroid camera that seems to predict the future: its pictures show what will happen 5 minutes from the moment you take them.

(Polaroid cameras are old school, yet, you can be so creative with them and practice various kinds of photography with them. So, what if they could tell the future? You can go many ways with this prompt. Horror, mystery, and drama are the first types of writing that come to my mind when I think of this.)

5. You are the protagonist of a novel-in-progress. Your author is experiencing intense writer's block. You decide to have a word with the author to shake them out of it.

(Breaking the 'fourth wall' a tiny bit is always exciting, and not just in movies and TV shows, but doing it inside of a story makes your readers think and pulls them in closer. I like this one because it's like talking to yourself without actually talking to yourself.)

6. "You're early." Said the Grim Reaper, with a hint of surprise.

(Your character wasn't supposed to die so early in this story. With this one, the entire novel can be about your protagonist dying and becoming friends with a Grim Reaper. Maybe even make the characters' death comedic. You can find fun ways to write this story. A Science Fiction with comedy would work very well for this prompt.)

7. Write about a romance between a human and a grim reaper.

(This prompt fascinates me. I honestly haven't seen any stories written where the protagonist falls in love with a Reaper. That makes this prompt up there on the rare list when it comes to thinking outside the box. I haven't tried this one out. If you happen to pick this prompt, please get in touch with me so that I can read your story.)

8. You're pretty sure you've never been this scared before. Then again, anyone in your position would be.

(This prompt has many different angles you can go. I think about real-life fears that each of us has with this one. Or maybe write about someone who joined an Army not knowing exactly how scary it could be.)

9. Start a story with a classic: "It was a dark and stormy night..."

(You can't beat a classic prompt. Authors have used it with so many of their stories with success. It still works no matter what kind you choose to write. The best part is that you can mix this up if it seems to old school for your taste.)

10. You spot a shooting star and begin to make a wish. Only the star looks like it's getting bigger and bigger. Suddenly you realize it's falling straight to Earth.

(See a shooting star? You're supposed to make a wish and hope it comes true. It would be terrifying to realize that what you're trying to wish upon is getting bigger. In reality, scientists talk about meteors and asteroids that come in close contact with our planet. Is it just me, or does it seem like it's happened more often for this year?)

Those are the ten creative writing prompts that have helped me out. I'm sure most of these will help you out as well. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this. If you're currently experiencing writer's block, give some of these a try. I'm sure one of these will ignite an adventure. Let your imaginations bloom! I Love you all!
