Sara Wilson, a mother from California. She now lives in Texas. She homeschools her three children. She also lived with her dream husband. They have a dog.

She has been writing on Vocal since 2020. She wrote over 200 stories and published a couple of books on Amazon. She has over 11 achievements on Vocal.

She is a self-taught FX make-up artist as well as a creepy doll creator.

Mariann: What attracted you to Vocal?

Sara: I have always loved to write, so I went online one day and was looking for a job that would pay me for doing what I already loved. I found Vocal online and just decided to post a few random things that I had already written just to see what it was all about. It didn't turn out to be a "job" at all, but a way for me to write and share with a community of people who were doing the same thing. I fell in love with that.

Fun Fact: “Phoenix”, is Sara’s favorite story she wrote on Vocal.

“Choosing my fav story I wrote is really hard for me... I'm gonna go with Phoenix because it's me taking my power back after years of not having a voice or anything.”

Mariann: How long does it take you to write a horror story?

Sara: It varies. Over the years, I have written a ton of short horror stories, but when I have attempted a full novel, I lose interest and stop writing. I prefer short stories for the most part because I like it when horror gets to the point. I've noticed that when you try to write for the sake of bulk in a book, things tend to get repetitive or confusing. For me, at least. But short stories come to me easily, and when they hit, it really is like bees buzzing in my head, and I have to write to get them out. If I'm particularly inspired, I can write 2-3 a day.

Mariann: What do you want your readers to know about you?

Sara: I'm a mess lol. I will never be consistent or a "brand" because I'm all over the place. I love creepy little things and horror, but I also love cutesy pink things and sparkly girly things. If you ever follow me because I'm "the horror girl", you will see things that don't always fit that box. I am also a Christian... Which has gotten me judged quite harshly. I'm too evil for the Christians and too Christian for the horror fans. It's a weird space to occupy.

Fun Fact: Sara was diagnosed with cancer during her 1st pregnancy. She was advised to have an abortion on her 7 th month. She refused, she is now cancer free. She was told it was impossible to have anymore children, she was blessed with two more kids.

Mariann: What got you into doing costume make-up?

Sara: I was frequently left home alone as a child. My mom was the "hot mom". She never went anywhere without a full beat of make-up and hair, etc. I was already ready to dive in at a very young age after watching her put it on every day. I wasn't really allowed make-up as a kid, but I had paint and chalk, and I'd use THAT as make-up at first. When Bride of Chucky came out, and I saw Tiffany Ray for the first time, I was floored. She was gorgeous, and I knew I wanted to be HER when I grew up. She was my first real make-up inspiration. When everyone left me at home again, I'd do make-up looks. I was made fun of so much for looking crazy lol, but ultimately, I got really good. Also, A place I worked at years ago hosted a lot of themed parties, and I was already good at regular make-up, but the themes inspired me to try new things, and they worked. I started modeling and came as a package because I can model and handle any makeup requested for the shoot. People started telling me I should do it for movies and stuff, but I have a phobia of make-up on other people. I always feel like I'm gonna mess it up or poke them in the eye or something lol, so I will not do make-up on anyone I'm not really close to because at some point, I'm probably gonna be sitting on you to do your face. You have essentially volunteered to be my drawing pad, and that's not something I'm comfortable with around strangers.

Mariann: What got you into making dolls?

Sara: Dolls! So, I was really obsessed with Harry Potter as a kid, and we were poor. So, I started using things I had around the house to make Harry Potter props for my Barbie dolls. Cloaks, quills, potions, and a Quidditch set. I made it all. A few years later, I really wanted to buy a Chucky doll, but every one I found looked so tacky. I wanted movie-quality, and that would have cost me $ 1,000 or more. So, I bought a bunch of baby dolls and attempted to make my own. I shared it on Facebook, and people loved it and started asking me to make them dolls. I also realized I didn't have to stop at Chucky. I could create my own characters and tap into other movies as well. I like doing horror dolls because they require more details than pretty dolls. I like doing stitches and mouths full of teeth. I love making things look completely different than how they started

Mariann: How long does it take you to create a doll?

Sara: It takes me days to make a doll, usually. I put a lot of detail into them. Stitches. Staples. I do all the clothes by hand—everything except the doll's shell. I make the body. I make the hair with yarn, which is one of the most time-consuming aspects. Chucky's face, I genuinely stitched, not painted.

Mariann: Why do you enjoy writing Horror stories and dark poetry?

Sara: My mom raised me on horror. My mom was a huge Stephen King fan, so it was always in the house.

I always found it to be a little less scary than what I dealt with in real life. That may sound unbelievable, but I faced real monsters as a child that didn't go away when I turned off a movie. Horror stories are fake, and I can control them.

Dark poetry. I love finding the beauty in things people deem unlovable or ugly.

I like things that people would typically disregard, like spiders' webs. Broken things. They're not something that has no value, just because it isn't pretty to the majority, in my opinion.

Mariann: Describe your writing space.

Sara: My writing space lol. Literally just my kitchen table. Sometimes my bed
