Veronica is a Spanish film released in 2017, about the death of a young girl believed to be related to a Ouija board game she used to play with her friends. In particular, this film is not just the imagination of the filmmakers but is based on the true story of a girl named Estefanía Gutierrez Lazaro, who lived in the suburbs of Madrid, Spain in the early 90s. Estefanía's death is still a mystery with no reasonable answer

At the time, Estefanía was a 15-year-old girl from Vallecas, a suburb in southern Madrid. She attended a normal high school and had a passion for spiritual and horror stories, but did not expect that that hobby would take her life.

Estefanía's mother recounted that her daughter bought a Ouija board and brought it to school in 1990. She used it to summon the spirit of her ex-boyfriend, who passed away after a terrible traffic accident.

Ouija is one of the methods of communication with the spiritual world, it is also known as Ouija which comes from French and German.

Some people say the Ouija board dates back to ancient Greece, but in fact it appeared not long ago. Elijah Bond invented this game in the early 1890s, then he sold the patent to businessman William Fuld - who was instrumental in producing and marketing Ouija boards around the world. Finally, toy manufacturer Parker Brothers acquired the patent in 1966. And from there it gradually began to become popular.

To play Ouija board you need:

- 1 board made from a large wooden board. On the board are written letters, numbers and the words yes and no

- A small heart-shaped wooden board is called a planchette. There will be a small hole on the planchette so the player can see the words through that hole

At this time, the Ouija player will use one finger and place it on the planchette. Based on some mystical rituals, they can converse with the spiritual world by spelling the letters that the planchette points to to form meaningful sentences, or simply answering yes or no

While she and her friends were conducting seances, a teacher passed by, discovered them, and proceeded to stop the game by damaging the Ouija board.

However, the teacher arrived too late and ghostly events began to happen afterward

After using the Ouija board, Estefanía started having hallucinations. Her family reported that Estefanía claimed to have witnessed strange figures moving around the house. She believed these figures were demons attempting to haunt her continually. Subsequently, she began having seizures.

The seizures gradually became more frightening as she often became angry for no reason or growled at her sisters. Her parents took her to many doctors and specialists but no one could figure out what was wrong with her. According to her medical records, she had no mental problems, but it was clear that Estefanía was in bad shape

In the movie Veronica, the girl died 3 days after participating in the Ouija board, but the truth is that Estefanía had to endure everything for 6 months. Seizures and nightmares constantly tormented her. And everything only ended in August 1991, on the day she died at the hospital.

Estefanía's parents did not know what happened to her, but they believed that her death was related to spiritual phenomena.

Even though she passed away, her family members continued to suffer supernatural phenomena for more than a year afterward. Her parents said that their house was never peaceful. They often see vague shadows appearing in the house and banging sounds on the door even though there is no one outside. Family members also often encounter scary nightmares.

Objects in the house also move or fall to the ground on their own. Electrical devices automatically turn on and off. They even heard a whisper in the middle of the night and Estefanía's plaintive cry

One of the most horrifying events was when Estefanía's portrait suddenly caught fire and fell off the table. Upon witnessing that event, Estefanía's family immediately reported it to the authorities for investigation

In the police report, Estefanía's family apartment had many cracks, especially in the girl's room. It is known that Estefanía's family kept Estefanía's room intact after their daughter passed away, but for some unknown reason, many posters fell off. Estefanía's parents said that every time someone entered Estefanía's room, they felt as if some force was pushing them out of there. A police officer even witnessed a cross hanging on the wall of Estefanía's room move on its own and fall to the ground.

In addition, during the investigation, police found reddish-brown stains throughout the Estefanía family's house, but it was unclear what they were and whether they were related to the death of the 15-year-old girl or not. Police officers described this as a mysterious and rare situation.

After all, Estefanía's family decided to abandon this "haunted" house and leave. Since then, they have no longer encountered strange, difficult-to-explain phenomena. At the same time, people no longer recorded the mysterious story in the old house of the Estefanía family. Everything ended with Estefanía's death and to this day, this is still one of the horror stories most spread among Spanish people.
