May is such a month of promise isn't it? So much to do, so much to plan! Not only is this the month of Cinco de Mayo, May the Fourth, and the last month before summer break . . . but it's also the official halfway point to Halloween! As soon as the clock struck midnight and the first day of (it's gonna be) May came around, we now have only six months until Halloween gets here! Now, if you're like me then you really consider Halloween to start September 1st so . . . we're really on a time crunch now.

Aren't you excited? There's so much promise each new Halloween season holds! Last year I got to do a lot of new and different things for Halloween, really expand my horizons past the usual activities, and I had a ton of fun doing so . . . so what will this year bring?

What are we manifesting for this Spooky Season? I've got these major words in my head . . . Exciting. Exquisite. Delicious. Thrilling. These are the vibes I want to embody, the vibes I want to permeate every day from September 1st until November 2nd.

But now how are we to bring those vibes to life? What can we do, where can we go to ensure we achieve this perfect season? There just hardly seems like enough time to do all the things you want to do, and so much that you're in danger of crushing it all together into a barely identifiable ball of mush! I've got a lot of ideas, so in the name of accountability I'll be listing them down below to serve as a reminder (and perhaps to serve you as a temptation?) for what I can do if only I get up and go:

1. Wear increasingly dramatic Makeup to every event/party

By Ben Scott on Unsplash

I originally wrote this as "Sith makeup" but then I was like . . . "oh, but cyberpunk makeup is Cute as Hell too! And retro-inspired makeup . . . neon makeu, oh . . . !" So now I'm just covering my bases. Cool as hell makeup, probably using a Glam Goth palette. Nothing says dramatic like a Sagittarius eye glitter moment!

2. Experience Howl-o-Scream in Tampa, Orlando, and Williamsburg

By David Menidrey on Unsplash

This is just an excuse for a bombastic road trip. I've been to the opening year of Howl-o-Scream at Sea World Orlando, and it was so much fun. The scares were perhaps smaller scale than its Horror Nights counterpart, but it had a more authentic vibe, and the drinks were a grand-fucking-slam. I mean, DAMN. Who decided they needed to go that hard with the drink menu?! It's always been my goal to enjoy the original one in Tampa as well, but it would be incredible to drive up and see how it's done in a different state too.

3. Make my own Halloween-themed drinks at home

By Igor Dernovoy on Unsplash

It's fun playing mixologist in the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is buy alcohol (hopefully on sale) and have some patience to try and make the drink come out beautifully. You can add sour worms for garnish, an eyeball . . . black salt if you're really fancy. There's nothing like pre-gaming zombie brains before you head out to get the scare(s) of your life.

4. Go to as many Halloween events as possible- both local and out of state!

By Tom Roberts on Unsplash

I did this- the local part at least- last year (see my reviews of local haunts like House of Horrors or No Way Out), and it was amazing to see the kind of ingenuity and authenticity these local haunts can bring when, if your being honest with yourself, the big ticket names are kind of losing their luster. So I want to revisit those haunts, try another local haunt that I was unable (cough, too broke, cough) to do, and then perhaps go to things like . . . Knotts Scary Farm in California, Netherworld in Georgia- things like that!

5. Eat as many delicious sweets as possible

By Jessica Flores on Unsplash

This is more a reminder to keep my chin up? I'm mostly unconcerned with weight gain (it happens, I love food!), but I can still feel self-conscious about the presence of blemishes or whatnot brought on by eating sweets, and . . . fuck that, it's Halloween. If my face be scary to any weaklings walking pass, that's a win for me, let's be honest. So I'm reminding myself here to not care about what these delicious little ticking time bombs might do later . . . live in the now! The future!(?) Just- live!

6. Create as many horror-inspired outfits as possible, wear them to the simplest outings

By Marco Giuseppe Timelli on Unsplash

Not cosplaying exactly, and not Blumhouse Bounding, either just . . . have fun with clothes. Dress like a minor character in Evil Dead, or Dracula, or Resident Evil. Just have fun with clothes. Allow myself to grow beyond the jeans and graphic tees I'm so comfortable with. No better time to be bold than Halloween . . .

7. Add more as the opportunities present themselves

By Alexa Williams on Unsplash

Like how in job descriptions they'll cover their ass with "other duties as assigned", I'm using that and tweaking it to "other fun things as I find". Just covering my bases. Who knows? Maybe an opportunity will present itself to go on, like . . . a ghost tour? Or there's like a drive-in theatre marathoning all the Evil Dead movies! Or . . . a spontaneous trip to a casino! Who knows!

Ah . . . Halloween . . . I can smell the HHN fog now. I'm just so excited! Fall/Haunting Season truly is the most wonderful time of the year. It's my power season! And I can't wait to see how dark, how thrilling, how absolutely chilling this year will get! In an organic, harmless way not . . . like, in a current events way. Ahem. Anyway, comment below and tell me how you're preparing for the Best Season Ever, and what plans you might already have percolating. See you under the moonlight!
